Belly up to the Gayme Bar, boys (and girls)

Remember how I mentioned (in this post) that I recently participated in my first podcast? Well, it's now available for your listening pleasure.

So, if you want to hear three gay guys who have had a bit too much to drink (by the end of the podcast, anyway) chat about games, check out Gayme Bar's "Function 15: Sex & Gaymes" when you have a chance.

One last thing: Please blame anything dumb I say on the (cheap) wine I was drinking during the recording of the podcast.

  1. First and most importantly, cheap wine is often great wine! Second, I'm sooo excited to listen to it. But right now, I'm at Barnes and Noble...so...yeah...I'll get to it later.

  2. Justin: David and I pretty much *only* drink cheap wine -- unless we're having guests or unless someone buys us something more expensive :)

As for the podcast, I hope you enjoy it. We certainly had fun making it. I just hope I don't sound like a complete idiot :(

  3. Nice podcast, Bryan! Much longer than I expected so I haven't listened to it all yet but I will :)

  4. Oh, I can only imagine how long it is/was, Simon -- sorry about that :( Glad you enjoyed what you've heard thus far, though!

  5. I'm listening to it now! Very nice to hear (the limited amount you could remember) about the origins of this blog, among other things. I'm being thoroughly entertained.

Oh, and nice voice, too! ;D

  6. Ha! The limited amount I could remember being the key, right? I know it's kind of embarrassing, but I really can't remember exactly what prompted me to start this blog in early 2007. I know some of it was due to thinking, "I can do that," in regards to other gaming blogs/sites I had visited, plus I liked the idea of being a nearly lone gay gamer in a sea of straight gamers. I'm sure there were other reasons, too, but maybe they don't really matter at this point :P

  7. Oh well, the fact that you're doing it is the important part, right? And that it's attracted at least a few fans is nice, too!

For the record, I have, in fact, completed Final Fantasy Tactics at LEAST 8 times. One time using nothing but archers. This is either mad gamer cred or a cry for help, I'm not sure which.

  8. Yes, that's the important thing, Kamiwoo. And, yes, it's *very* nice that it has attracted as many fans as it has :)

As for beating FFT at least eight times: WOW! Now, that is dedication :) I don't know if I've beaten any game eight times. Well, other than games like SMB, SMB2, SMB3, etc.

Oh, and I can't imagine beating FFT with only archers. Why on earth did you do that? Just to see if it could be done?

  9. I was pretty dedicated to RPGs of the SNES/PS1 era... okay, it was mostly that I was at the mercy of what my parents were actually willing to buy for me, so I had to replay what I had a lot. FFT in particular was my go-to game in highschool. With so many job/ability combinations, it never really got that boring to play over and over.

As for the archers thing? There's something know as the - don't be afraid, now - "Straight Character Challenge" in the FFT community. Despite what I've always suspected about Ramza and Delita's relationship, it actually refers to using just a single job class straight up as-is, with no help from other job abilities or anything. Instead of using all the most powerful options, you have to utilize (and begin to fully appreciate) what you're stuck with.

I chose archers because they're kind of overlooked in FFT, plus the sprites are cute and it was fun to rain arrows of destruction from above. I'll probably try the other challenges someday if I get that bored again!

  10. Nice podcast.
Funny how far a bit of cheap wine can go, isn't it?

Sorry I dropped off the face of the planet. I've been heartbroken.

  11. Oh, I understand what you're saying about being at the mercy of what your parents are willing to buy for you -- I was in the same position as a kid. Thankfully we were able to rent games from the local grocery store, so that helped a bit.

Anyway, the "straight character challenge" you described sounds interesting! It sounds kind of like what some people do while playing the original FF (for NES) -- play as a party of only white mages, etc.

I can't imagine playing the game that way myself, but it's cool that you did it. And not only did you play it that way, you beat it that way. Wow! :)

  12. Hey there, Gaelach Rose! I was wondering what had happened to you. I'm glad you're back, but I'm really sorry to hear you're feeling heartbroken these days :(

  13. It's all right.

I'm fine (ish). It's just hard moving on from a relationship, you know?

  14. Yes, I know. Still, I'm sorry. I hope you feel better soon.

  15. I am.

I have other people I love around me.

  16. Good! That's always important, but especially so in times like these :)

  17. Hey. I'm not a podcast guy, but I tuned in for this. Super cool. Totally worth the listen. You remind me that I owe it to myself to find some people -- gay or not, but come on, gay would be nice -- to talk games with in my neck of the woods.

  18. Thanks, Drew! I'm glad you liked the podcast :) BTW, I'm not a podcast either -- at least, not usually. I may have to change that, though. Anyway, I hope you find a group of folks -- gay ones, especially -- you can talk games with soon!
