First and most importantly, cheap wine is often great wine! Second, I'm sooo excited to listen to it. But right now, I'm at Barnes and Noble...so...yeah...I'll get to it later.

Ha! The limited amount I could remember being the key, right? I know it's kind of embarrassing, but I really can't remember exactly what prompted me to start this blog in early 2007. I know some of it was due to thinking, "I can do that," in regards to other gaming blogs/sites I had visited, plus I liked the idea of being a nearly lone gay gamer in a sea of straight gamers. I'm sure there were other reasons, too, but maybe they don't really matter at this point :P

ReplyDeleteAs for beating FFT at least eight times: WOW! Now, that is dedication :) I don't know if I've beaten any game eight times. Well, other than games like SMB, SMB2, SMB3, etc.
Oh, and I can't imagine beating FFT with only archers. Why on earth did you do that? Just to see if it could be done?
I was pretty dedicated to RPGs of the SNES/PS1 era... okay, it was mostly that I was at the mercy of what my parents were actually willing to buy for me, so I had to replay what I had a lot. FFT in particular was my go-to game in highschool. With so many job/ability combinations, it never really got that boring to play over and over.
ReplyDeleteAs for the archers thing? There's something know as the - don't be afraid, now - "Straight Character Challenge" in the FFT community. Despite what I've always suspected about Ramza and Delita's relationship, it actually refers to using just a single job class straight up as-is, with no help from other job abilities or anything. Instead of using all the most powerful options, you have to utilize (and begin to fully appreciate) what you're stuck with.
I chose archers because they're kind of overlooked in FFT, plus the sprites are cute and it was fun to rain arrows of destruction from above. I'll probably try the other challenges someday if I get that bored again!

Oh, I understand what you're saying about being at the mercy of what your parents are willing to buy for you -- I was in the same position as a kid. Thankfully we were able to rent games from the local grocery store, so that helped a bit.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, the "straight character challenge" you described sounds interesting! It sounds kind of like what some people do while playing the original FF (for NES) -- play as a party of only white mages, etc.
I can't imagine playing the game that way myself, but it's cool that you did it. And not only did you play it that way, you beat it that way. Wow! :)
