... I hope they would look at least something like the adorable characters seen in the following illustrations (get a better look at them here), produced by Canadian artist Beth T (aka rollingrabbit):
Beth says on her tumblog that the female Luigi is her favorite. (She also likes "how Waluigi just looks the usual design, but in drag.") As for me, I think I like her male Peach best.

Agreed. Boy Peach is like a nine-year-old girl's dream, which is to say that I occasionally think like a nine-year-old-girl. I'd love to see someone explore this idea further, if only to see how they deal with the Birdo problem.
ReplyDeleteOh, I like the way you think, Drew! I'd love to see a girl Yoshi, for instance. As for Birdo, wouldn't he be re-imagined (once again) as a boy -- or am I missing something?
ReplyDeleteIf I'm right (that in this alternate universe of which we're speaking, Birdo would be a boy), I'd like to see a really butch Birdo, with stubble and maybe even a cigar coming out of his mouth. Or something like that...
I quite like Buttercup! And Wario's pointy green shoes
ReplyDeleteOK, you're going to laugh at me, Anne, but which one is Buttercup? Is that an alternate name for Peach/Toadstool that I'm not aware of, or maybe an alternate name for Daisy?
ReplyDeleteAs for Wario's shoes: I like 'em, too :)
Aw, man, you caught me! I mean Daisy D: Buttercup is the princess in Super Mario Land for the Game Boy, and I think she pretty much looks like Daisy? That's the only Mario game I played a significant amount of, so it was Buttercup that stuck out in my mind haha
ReplyDeleteApricot: No, that's still Daisy back in Mario Land. She just got a few makeovers between here and there.

Princess Buttercup is the Robin Wright in Princess Bride, right?
Drew: Haha, you're right! Everyone's showing me up today. I'm probably just confused, as always.
ReplyDeleteAh, so it's Daisy you were talking about, Anne. BTW, I didn't realize/remember that Daisy was the princess Mario saved in Super Mario Land, Drew. Of course, I haven't played that game in ages...
ReplyDeleteSadly, I haven't played Super Mario Land in years either. My brain just seizes onto certain useless bits of info, often at the expense of more practical knowledge.
ReplyDeleteOh, I understand that, Drew :) BTW, I loved that blog post about Daisy. Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteI now think I'm going to have to play through Super Mario Land sometime soon, BTW. All I remember about it is that everything is very small (compared to other Mario games) and that the lass boss is one tough cookie...
Oh, yeah...we play SML all the time in our house. Robb loves the music and the fact that Daisy (who we believe to be a giant whore) turns into enemies at the end of each world...I don't know why. We're weird.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite images of all time, honestly. I just adore it. The female Wario is my favorite...she's so fat and grumpy!
Do you play the game on an original GameBoy, Justin, or a GBA or DS? Or maybe via emulation?
ReplyDeleteSorry to ask so many questions -- just curious :)
These illustrations are pretty awesome, aren't they? Miss Beth has a bright future ahead of herself, me thinks!
We play it on the GBA, but it's available for download on 3DS!
ReplyDeleteAh, that's cool. A regular ol' GBA or a GBA SP?
ReplyDeleteSorry for asking so many questions. I'm always curious about the systems people own/use...
