You know which game-based food item I'd like to create/consume in real life? The fuchsia martini that appears in Bobble Bobble ...

... or maybe the strawberry-topped cake from the same game.

I doubt I'll be able to create my own recipes for either of those dishes anytime soon, though, so I'll just cross my fingers and hope that Daniella Zelli, proprietress of the Gourmet Gaming tumblog (gourmetgaming.co.uk), covers one or both of them at some point.

In case you've never been to Zelli's site before, it features recipes that attempt to bring game-based food items to life. Thus far, she's recreated the "amazing apple pie" from Fable II, the "golden brown pizza" from Dead Rising and Thomas' biscuit from Deadly Premonition, among others.

It appears that Zelli takes requests now and then, so maybe I should hit her up and ask if she'll consider tackling one or both of the Bubble Bobble-based food items I mentioned earlier in a future post?

  1. I'd settle for the huge green pepper. Mmm.

  2. Ha! I love it. Who knew you were such a fan of green peppers?

I'd also like to try the game's sushi, by the way. Or that thing that looks like a giant eclair...

  3. Oooh. The big eclair would be amaaazing. And...sushi? I don't know if I've ever seen that...or...recognized it, anyway...

  4. Oh, yes, there are at least three different kinds of sushi in the game, Justin. They're all nigiri-style sushi rather than rolls, though. Mmmm, now I want some sushi :)

  5. 'aint it part of the stereotype that us gay guys are meant to be real knowledgeable about alcohol and can make like, cocktail recipies and whatever? / the stereotype that all gay guys are alcoholics.

  6. Well, I can definitely say I enjoy drinking cocktails now and then, I don't know how to *make* any. So, someone else is going to have to bring Bubble Bobble's fuchsia one to life :)

  7. Hm. Now I have to play it again to see them. Shame.

  8. Yes, shame :P Get Robb to play with you!

  9. Final Fantasy XIV's in-game recipe for frumenty is surprisingly accurate. This is, to date, the most exciting tale I have of my time with FFXIV.

  10. OK, now I have to Google "frumenty" -- I've never heard of it before!

  11. It tastes quite nice!

  12. Ah, so you made it -- the recipe from FF XIV? If so, interesting!

  13. Well frumenty is a real dish anyway, but it was the FFXIV recipe that caught my eye and got me interested enough to make it. There's not enough detail to make it just from the information in the game, but I did find that the real thing uses the same ingredients as those listed in FFXIV so I think I ended up with as close as you can get to "real" game food :)

  14. Huh. Well, all of this is still pretty interesting to me. I'd love it if more games featured recipes of their signature food items (like Thomas' biscuit in Deadly Premonition).

  15. Kimimi: I just looked up frumenty. Huh! Where have you eaten frumenty, if you don't mind me asking? Based on what I just read, I can't imagine it's a commonly eaten dish these days? Also, did you like it?

  16. I ate it at my house! I did a bit of research and then made up a bowl full based on a combination of the FFXIV ingredients list and a few recipes I found - it was lovely!

  17. My hat's off to you, Kimimi! I love that the dish's inclusion in FFXIV prompted you to make it in real life. All the better that you actually enjoyed eating it :)
