The DS and Wii ain't dead yet!

The folks at Nintendo all but ignored the DS and Wii during their E3 presser yesterday morning. In fact, they mentioned just one DS game--the DSiWare version of The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures--and one Wii game--The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword--during the 90-minute event.

Thankfully, the systems aren't quite as dead as they currently appear.

The company's press site, for instance, suggests that Nintendo will be bringing at least four more DS games to the States in the next year: Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2, Kirby Mass Attack (aka Atsumete! Kirby), Professor Layton and the Last Specter and Super Fossil Fighters.

Also, along with previously-announced Wii games like Mystery Case Files: The Malgrave Incident and Wii Play: Motion, Nintendo will be bringing something called Fortune Street, Kirby Wii, Mario Party 9 and Rhythm Heaven to North America at some point in 2011 or 2012 (the last two games in the afore-mentioned list are labeled "TBA").

Because I'm especially excited about Kirby Wii and Rhythm Heaven, I'm going to share their must-see trailers below.

Here's the trailer for the former:

And here's the tailer for the latter:

Sadly, Nintendo's press site says absolutely nothing about The Last Story or Xenoblade at the moment. Does that mean the company has decided against bringing these RPGs to North America? I hope not.

On the bright side, both games are supposedly going to be released in Europe later this year, so I guess I can import either or both of them from sendit.com if need be.

  1. Hm. Well, I'm up for both Kirby games AND Rhythm Heaven. I'll hold on to my Wii until the last second. That sounded dirty.

  2. After watching the trailer for Mario Party--I mean...Monopoly...I mean...Fortune Street, I'm intrigued. What an odd mash up of characters and concepts.

  3. Ha ha! I'm holding on to my Wii FOREVER, Justin. Or at least as long as it lasts. I softmodded it so I can play games via emulation, and I'm guessing it won't be so easy to do that on the Wii U.

  4. Yeah, Fortune Street seems interesting to me, too. Admittedly, I wouldn't give it a second glance if it didn't include DQ and Mario characters in it.

Speaking of DQ, I wonder when we'll get more news of DQX. Hopefully it's still coming for Wii and hasn't been bumped to Wii U...

  5. The Kirby game looks like the absolute most adorable thing in all of E3. Looks like so much fun. Plus Meta Knight team play!

Rhythm Heaven is the best news though. I imported the GBA one when it came out and along with Mother 3, it's probably my favorite game on the console. As fun as the DS version is, I feel like it can do without a lot of the touchscreen control, but that's just me personally. Hopefully the Wii version will actually implement controls to game that can't rather be done with just the push of a button.

Totally taken aback with Fortune Street. When I saw that on the screen at the end of the conference, I thought "they can't mean Itadaki Street?". Well, I was right and surprised. The first one came out more than twenty years ago. Why bring it to the US now? Dragon Quest isn't very popular either, but everyone loves Mario, right?

And don't even bring up The Last Story and Xenoblades. I feel those tears coming up. At least it's coming out in Europe.

  6. Yes, Mark, Kirby Wii looks fabulous. I honestly can't wait to get my hands on it.

As for Rhythm Heaven Wii -- you'll be happy to hear, I think, that the game supposedly *only* uses button presses, not motion controls. I really liked the DS version, but I preferred the GBA original, so this news is music to my ears :)

I'm curious about Fortune Street, too. Not sure I'll actually buy it, as I'm not sure who I could get to play this with me, but I'm intrigued all the same.

I'm buying Xenoblade no matter what. If I have to import from the UK and spend $60-80 to do so, I'll do it. Not so sure about The Last Story yet...
