Oh, and most of said art should be rather obtuse like the piece below.
Don't get me wrong, art that uses game imagery in a more straightforward manner--like this Soda Popinski illustration--is cool, too, but I generally prefer art that displays some creativity and individuality.
Speaking of which, the painting above was produced by deviantartist melonjaywalk, who shares that it "was done as a gift for a friend of mine based on some of her favorite things--which included movie reviews and The New Yorker."

ReplyDeleteAlthough I'd be perfectly happy to see Mac and his pink sweatsuit in this painting, Justin, I'm more than OK with it as it is. In some ways, I think including Mac would be a bit too ... expected? Obvious? As it is, you can tell the image was either pulled from a game or inspired by game imagery, but unless you're a total Punch-Out!! nut (I am) you probably wouldn't know which game inspired it, etc.

The next question is: what movie was Okay? I understand its just a gift for someone who likes movie reviews, but there must exist out there somewhere a movie that this picture would perfectly go with.
