Well, I'll be: yet another PSP game is being prepped for western release

Unlike other coming-soon-to-the-PSN-nearest-you PSP titles like Class of Heroes 2 and Sweet Fuse: At Your Side, though, Black Rock Shooter: The Game western release was announced long ago.

The thing is, so little has been said about this Imageepoch RPG since then that most interested parties concluded it had been canceled.

Well, according to according to blisteredthumbs.net's Taylor H., who interviewed a few NIS America staffers during the company's recent press event, that's far from the case. (NIS America will be publishing the game in Europe and North America.)

In fact, not only is Black Rock Shooter: The Game's localization said to be complete, but apparently it's been done for a while now. Oh, and word is it will hit the North American PlayStation Store--and hopefully the European one, too?--"before E3."

Considering my backlog is bursting at the seams right now, I'm not entirely sure I'll be picking up this title once it finally surfaces.

The main thing giving me pause at the moment: I really like the game's art style. Also, I'm a total sucker for a good portable RPG. Of course, who says this portable RPG is a good one?

Are any of you also hemming and hawing when it comes to the supposedly impending western release of Black Rock Shooter: The Game?

  1. I've been waiting on this one for awhile. I don't even know anything about it other than it's based on an anime, and that it has a cool name. But you know, we don't get a lot of JRPGs these days, so I get excited about anything new that's not a sequel. I really would like to know why they've been teasing us about it for so long.

  2. I've been curious about this one, simply because of how oddball it looks- my PSP/Vita is always in need of more oddball games. Interesting to hear it's still alive! I'd figured it'd gone the way of Phantom Breaker on the 360, i.e. announced and nearly ready-to-go but perpetually, almost comically delayed.

  3. I've known about the name/title for a good while, too, Steve, but for some reason I never looked up any screens or trailers of it until this news popped up.

Anyway, as for why they've been teasing us about it for so long: it seems it's been done for a while but then got held up due to some legal issues. It *sounds* like they've been worked through now.

Let's hope that's actually the case so NISA can get this out the door and onto our PSPs!

  4. It is a bit of an oddball game, isn't it, Ant? I think that's why I'm interested in it, too. Well, that and it's supposed to be an RPG of sorts.

BTW, it isn't out yet, so who knows--maybe it'll join the ranks of Phantom Breaker eventually. I certainly hope that won't be the case, though!

  5. I watched and loved the Black Rock Shooter anime movie and I think the games art style looks super great for an PSP game. I think I would buy it :)

I've had my eye on this one for a while – it's nice to see it's not totally dead! We haven't heard a peep about it from NISA for quite I while now, so I'd figured it was dropped...

That said, I don't know much of anything about it, but I'd be up for giving it a shot.

Do you know the origins of the Black Rock Shooter character/"series"? It's really interesting! Originally it was just an illustration of the character in black clothing you see in the game screenshots, then someone was inspired to make a Hatsune Miku song about her, and it eventually got so popular they made an OVA out of it. Then, finally, we got this game! (I think there's another anime series and some manga, as well) It's pretty amazing how much crossover there is between media in Japan.

  7. Ah, so Black Rock Shooter actually means something to you, Lizzi? That's cool! Also, I agree that the art style of this one is pretty great.

  8. Oh, I love that story, Anne! And, no, I'd never heard it before. Really cool :) Kind of makes me even more interested than I was in this game.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see if it does, in fact, make it out before E3. Here's hoping!

Well I'm glad I wasn't just repeating something you'd heard a million times before! :)
