Precious game-related thing I desperately want but do not need: Space Invaders x Hello Kitty pouch

No joke: if the "square pouch" below--which features a Space Invaders x Hello Kitty mash-up that could only come from Japan--were large enough to fit a Nintendo DS or 3DS, I'd hand over my hard-earned money to the folks at NCSX right now.

The problem is, I have no idea of knowing how large or small these Gotochi-made pouches are at the moment--which means for the time being, at least, my cash is staying put in the confines of my wallet.

Should I hear from someone at NCSX that they're large enough to accommodate, say, my "misty pink" Japanese 3DS--well, I may have to reconsider.

Thankfully, the pouches--which currently carry a price tag of $25.90--aren't expected to ship until October, so all of us Space Invaders and/or Hello Kitty fans have plenty of time to suss out what's what when it comes to their length and girth.

Pre-order: Space Invaders x Hello Kitty square pouch

What an odd crossover. Although...I've seen her on a toaster...or...rather...AS a toaster. Guess this isn't so weird.

  2. Apparently this crossover has been a "thing" for about six years now, Justin. I have no idea why, but you have to admit it is interesting--or "interesting," at least :)

Did you email NCSX about it? I've always got a reply back every time I've contacted them, even when if it's just an annoying correction ("That's Luigi!") to something I saw on their RSS feed. :)

But it looks like there's a measurement of 20 units on there. I'm assuming 20cm, more than enough to accommodate a 3DS. Anything smaller (mm?) would be stupid, and anything bigger would have a handle, wouldn't it? Even at 20cm you'd think it would have one. It looks like there's two designs, I think the little "speech bubbles" are indicating what's on the back side. Which would you get?

  4. I did e-mail them, but I haven't heard back yet.

As for which design I would get: actually, I didn't realize until you mentioned it here that there *were* two designs. Previously I just assumed the 'Space Invaders x Hello Kitty' one was the front and the smaller design (featuring the tiny Space Invaders and Hello Kitty sprites) was the back. Doh!

Now that I know they're different ... I don't know which one I'd go for! Although I appreciate that the one on the right in the image above is 'classier,' I'm more drawn to the one on the left (that says 'Space Invaders x Hello Kitty' on the front).

What about you? Do you prefer one over the other?

Yeah I like that one too. The "pattern" design just isn't as fun, I think. I wish the images were bigger, so we could tell how Kitty was integrated into the "screen shot" design, and also read the text on the Invaders x Kitty side--I suspect it might be hilarious Engrish. Ideally it would be reversible, but then they wouldn't be able to sell as many to Hello Kitty/Space Invader maniacs. ;)

  6. Yeah, the design on the left definitely is more fun, that's for sure. So, that's likely the one I'd go with if I were to buy one. The question is: will I? I have no clue at the moment :|

I don't suppose you're planning on buying one yourself?

Not for me, I've got all my bag needs pretty well taken care of, and my old DS bag fits my 3DS just fine. At 20cm (if I'm right) it could be good for other stuff too, though.

  8. Yeah, 20 cm really seems kind of large for this kind of thing. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, to tell you the truth. I guess in a perfect world it would be about the size of a DS Lite or OG 3DS, but that doesn't mean I couldn't put something like this to use. Hmmmm, decisions, decisions...

Just in case you'd like to see it:

This is the bag I've got (mine's a lighter color). They don't make them anymore, but hard to beat that $2.50 price! Not very stylish, of course. It holds 8 games tight in little sleeves built in, and if you have any of those plastic DS cart carriers it can easily fit those in too, along with headphones and the power cord. It's designed for the original "phat" DS, but I'm pretty sure it could hold an XL.

  10. Oh, that's nice, Michael! Thanks for sending the link. Do you find you use it often?

Pretty much as often as I use my 3DS, for me they're kinda one in the same! If I'm taking the 3DS with me, the pouch goes too. I know some people just pocket it or throw it in a bag, but I like to have a bit of extra protection from possible bag-damage (it could get scraped up, I think). At home, if the 3DS isn't in use, I keep it in the bag, too, for quick grabbing. I suppose it's a bit less "portable," but I'm always carrying around something larger that I can put it in anyway so that's a non-issue for me!

  12. That's interesting! I'm one of those folks who tends to pocket my 3DS when I go out. Otherwise, if I'm traveling, I usually put it in my carry-on, stuff like that. I wouldn't mind a little tote or something to carry it in from now on, though--at least during car rides or on longer trips.
