A challenger to the 'Year of the GameBoy' appears

Why? Because, as you've hopefully already heard, the folks at Genius Sonority announced yesterday that THE "DENPA" MEN 3: The Rise of Digitoll will float onto the European and North American 3DS eShops sometime this summer.

Combine that exciting nugget of news with my recent A Link Between Worlds, Bravely Default and even Attack of the Friday Monsters obsessions and it's pretty clear the 3DS is going to give the GameBoy a run for its money when it comes to earning the top spot in my heart and mind this year.

After all, the first "DENPA" MEN adventure was my favorite game of 2012, and even though I wasn't quite as enamored with its follow-up I still plan to put a good few hours into part three, which appears to feature an Animal Crossing-esque house-decorating element as well as a number of interesting online modes.

The former can be seen in THE "DENPA" MEN 3's first official (in English, at least) trailer, by the way. Check it out here if you're curious.

Are any of you excited about this impending release (a demo of which is supposed to hit the eShop in May)? If so, did you also play--and enjoy--any of the previous titles in the series, or will this be your first time at the "DENPA" MEN rodeo?

  1. Yeah, I also wonder if they'll try anything else. That said, I'm pretty sure I remember reading that they were working on a fourth Denpa Men game that would take the series in a new direction, or something like that...

  2. OK, thanks for the info. I guess I'll stick with P1 and P2 for the time being :)

You know, I never finished the first one. It was fun, tough as nails, and very cute. Maybe I'll go back to finish it some day.

  4. Don't feel too bad, Justin; I have a feeling a *lot* of people failed to finish the first game. Or the second one, for that matter. I'm going to do my best to finish the third one, as I gave up on the second one earlier that I would've thought given my love of the first...

How weird I just went back to the first one last night! I was getting a bit bored of Pokemon X, just got to the league and just felt kinda meeeh playing it.

  6. Interesting! I'm guessing this means you haven't played the second one yet? Also, will you be getting the third, or is the first one enough for you?

Also, you've reminded me I have to get back to Pokemon X. Not sure what pulled me away from it, but I'm going to return to it ASAP. First, though, I have to beat Bravely Default XD

    Love's Vagrant is Ringabel's.

Another interesting thing about Attack on Titan's soundtrack is that the background music was composed by Hiroyuki Sawano who is composing the soundtrack for Monolith Soft's Wii U game that people are referring to X for the time being.

I have the 2nd one on my Watchlist and I'll be getting the third one for sure, it's super cute and fun. I think that's what I'll paint next, Denpa Men.

I just got Crimson Shroud, Liberation Maiden and Hakuoki in the sale (think it was €2.99 each? or was it 2.99 each and 16.99 for Hakuoki? I forget) lately, also picked up a physical copy of Senran Kaugura Burst on 3DS without an ounce of shame/embarrassment

  9. You're going to paint Denpa Men? OK, that I'm going to want to see!

As for you picking up Crimson Shroud, Liberation Maiden and Hakuoki: good for you!

I kind of doubt Hakuoki cost just $2.99 but, hey, if that's what you got it for, more power to you!

Anyway, which one are you planning to play first?

  10. Interesting! I guess I'll really have to check out Attack on Titan's soundtrack soon...

Out of CS, LM and Hakuoki? Hmm, I guess Liberation Maiden but I might get into a mood and pick something else. I really should start going through my PSP backlog and leave my 3DS alone for awhile, I've not finished 1 PSP game, it's disgraceful.

I'll let you know when I do the painting through Twitter, it's the fastest way for me.

  12. Thanks, I'll look forward to it!

  13. Yeah, I like the introduction of the "catch" ability, too. It'll be interesting to see if I actually make use of it, though, as I tend not to make use of such abilities in RPGs, for whatever reason.

Also, I bow down to you for beating both previous Denpa games! I feel pretty proud for having beaten the first! Sadly, I think I've only put about 15 hours into the second so far :( Maybe I'll go back to it soon--just in time for the third to arrive...

I hope so. I wonder if they'll ever do a physical release. Like a Denpa Men Collection or Something.

  15. I've long wondered that myself, Chief. I'd totally pick up a Denpa Men Collection--especially if it had great box art :)
