Photographic proof that my love of the DS has been rekindled, too

I know I've been going on and on and on about the GameBoy as of late, but the ol' brick, as I like to call it, isn't the only system currently pinging my gaming radar. Obviously there's the 3DS, as evidenced by the last few "Shall We Do It?" posts I've published, but there's also the DS.

How else can you explain all of the DS games I've picked up in the last three months, a number of which can be seen in the photos below?

The games included in the photo above, by the way, are (clockwise from the upper-left) Dun-Dam: Dungeons & Dam, Awatama (aka Soul Bubbles), 7th Dragon, Zombie Daisuki, Tomodachi Collection and Tetris DS.

Now, before any of you jump to the conclusion that I'm completely bonkers, most of these DS games were picked up on the cheap. I nabbed Tomodachi Collection, for example, for all of three bucks.

The copy of Noora and the Time Studio (aka Nora to Toki no Kōbō: Kiri no Mori no Majo) seen above and below was a steal, too, at just $12.

Sadly, I haven't played any of these games yet due to the fact that Bravely Default has me by the short and curlies at the moment. I'll start playing at least a couple of them once the above-mentioned RPG releases me from its grasp, though, I swear. But which should I play first?

I can totally understand where you're coming from here. My poor DS has been neglected thanks to my current fixation on the Game Boy Advance. I bought Bangai-O (tough, but fun) and The Legend of Starfy (zzz...) but neither have gotten much love because I always have a Game Boy Micro in my hands. I'm seriously thinking of collecting games for that system in earnest; I've got about thirty odd GBA titles, but I could double that amount and still not have all the best games the system has to offer.

By the way, good call on Soul Bubbles. The developers knew that game had no hope of selling well (there's a disclaimer in the US version which says as much) but it's nevertheless a fun, relaxing action title, reminding me of what would happen if you bred Loco Roco to the Game Boy oldie Bubble Ghost.

  2. Ah, experiencing a bit of a GBA obsession these days, eh, Jess? I can appreciate that!

I also love the system, of course, and also could/should buy some more games for it. Unfortunately, my GB and DS obsessions have pushed that possibility onto the back burner, but maybe once I've cooled a bit on them I'll move on to the GBA :)

It's funny you should bring up Bubble Ghost in regard to Soul Bubbles. I've been meaning to write a few posts about that game for ages, so maybe I'll finally get around to it in the next few weeks...

Oooh, $13 for Noora is quite the steal! I've been meaning to crack open my copy. And I've been eyeing that zombie game, as well! You'll have to write about it once you've played it!

  4. I know, right? I've been set on spending about $45 or $50 for it for ages, and then this auction came up on eBay. Assumed it would get to $40+ by the end, but it didn't. Yay me :)

As for the zombie game: I'll definitely write about it here sooner rather than later. In fact, I think it's going to be one of the first of this bunch that I play. Anyway, hopefully it's good--or at least OK!

Soul Bubbles is an excellent hidden gem on the DS. I recently went through the shelf and decided to play it. Slogging through the Backlog Shelf has turned up some really good games I had forgotten about.

  6. Agreed on all accounts, Chief. Which reminds me that I need to go through my own DS backlog shelf soon...
