Just about a week ago, in the comments section of this post, Zigfried over at unlimitedzigworks.com challenged me to come up with a "somewhat obscure" Famicom game that he could play and then review on his site shortly after the start of the year.
Being the indecisive chap that I am, I came up with not one but eight obscure-ish Famicom games for Zigfried to consider.
Among the games I suggested: (Sony) Epic's Flying Hero, a Breakout-like single-screener that replaces the latter title's ball and paddle with a trio of firemen (two of whom wield a trampoline, with the third using it to bounce around the screen and rescue stranded civilians).
Anyway, go here to read Zigfried's impressions of this archaic-but-charmingly-quirky (my words, not his) game. Oh, and go here to see the titular "flying heroes" in action.

That is a good game, I play it every once in a while. Did they not make a version for the NES?
The NES version was planned but never released (tentative title of Blazebusters). To be honest, I doubt anyone would have bought it, seeing as the JP one came out in 1989 and it would have been contending with the likes of Ninja Gaiden and Mega Man 2.
If the Famicom urge strikes again in the future, I may dip back into that pool of suggestions!
Ah, I should have known you'd have this game, Sean! It is a fun way to kill some time now and then, isn't it?
I didn't know this was ever planned for a NA release, Zigfried -- thanks for letting me/us know about that!
You're right, of course, that it likely would have been ignored. Heck, I think it would have gone ignored in the States even if it had been released quite a bit earlier than 1989...
I'd have LOVED to play this...Firemen have always been something that attracted me.
Why does that not surprise me, Justin? ;)
