Forget Wii Party, I'd rather play the 'Famicom Party Game' instead

Do you have a Famicom, a lot of Famicom games (somewhere between 30 and 50) and two or more friends? If so, you can play the party game that's sweeping Japan!

OK, so it's not really sweeping Japan, but it's popular enough that some folks are filming their "Famicom Party Game" experiences and posting the resulting videos--like the one below--on YouTube.

Note: Although dressing up in Famicom-inspired cosplay isn't required of "Famicom Party Game" participants, doing so certainly seems to add an extra dollop of fun to the proceedings.

For more information on this game, which apparently originated on a Japanese TV show called "Otameshika," check out famicomblog. blogspot.com.

We're SO doing this the next time I have my game-playing friends over! Oh my gosh! My 52 games will really come in handy!

I'd love to try this with my SNES games, too...but...80% of them are RPGs, so...you know...

I'm going to have to try this at some point, too, Justin. Although, at most I have 20 Famicom games at this point. It may have to wait a bit...

Especially with the costume additions, this would make an excellent Halloween party idea!

I'm going to have to try this, definitely. The concept seems like it wouldn't be TOO punishing since most "impossibly hard" Famicom/NES games aren't so bad on the first level, at least. I felt pretty bad for the person who had to play Spelunker...

Yes, this would be a *great* addition to a Halloween party!

As for the difficulty of this particular party game, I think it comes down to which games you choose. Personally, I wouldn't include a game like Spelunker if I were to play it, but I would include some moderately-difficult games -- just to make things interesting :)

Anyway, if you do give this a try at some point, let me know, will you? Also, let Sean at famicomblog know, if you can.

Cheers for the mention, Bryan!

I hadn't thought of it as a Halloween activity but yeah, that would be cool! You could choose some Halloween themed games for it. Another variation would be to make someone who broke up a streak by failing to complete level 1 in a single try to do some sort of "punishment":) That would add another level of excitement to it.

If you are short on Famicom carts, you might try using a different console, though I think a "purist" would insist on Famicom carts:)

Definitely post pictures if you do it, I'd be very curious!!

You're very welcome, Sean! Thanks for turning me on to this great party game with your post :) I'd definitely want to be a purist and play with just Famciom games, so I guess I'll have to wait until I get a few more :)
