While scouring the Interwebs for the Mr. Saturn illustration that anchored yesterday's EarthBound-focused post, I came across the curiously titled (in a good way) Sketchamagowza! tumblr.
Although said tumblr is filled with awesome pieces of art (here are a few yummy examples), most of which are inspired by or related to video games and nearly all of which are produced by someone who calls him or herself Shmorky, my current favorite is the Super Mario Bros. 2-inspired you see below (and here).
Nintendo seriously needs to bring back Wart, don't you think? And all of the other guys and gals who were featured in Super Mario Bros. 2 (aka Super Mario USA or Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic), too.
Silly aside: if you're any kind of RPG fan, be sure check out Shmorky's hilarious "Secret of the Dungeon" comic.

Robb and I have been bitching for a Wart-style endgame in a Mario platformer forever. They've used Bowser a million times, and every time a new one comes out we're like, "Well...maybe this time!" Maybe as a heavy character in Smash Bros? That'd be amazing!
My main wish is to have him in another proper Mario sidescroller, Justin, but I'll take him in a game like Smash Bros. instead if that's the only possibility.
Maybe he'll be the boss in Super Mario 3D World? It's enough of a Mario 2 throwback that it could make sense...
I guess we'll see! I'm not going to bet on it, Drew, but you never know, do you?
The guy from Mario 2 I'd really like to see come back is Mouser! He had a kind of nastiness about him (plus those shades!) that no other Mario villains really have, but still feels Mario-ish to me.
Ah, I agree! Actually, I like the other boss characters in the game, too. Uh, what's that crab called again? Really, though, I like pretty much everything about SMB2/Super Mario USA, which is why I want so badly to see it make some sort of comeback...
Clawgrip! For some reason it was very important to memorize those names when I was young and retain them for the rest of my life. ;)
Ha ha! I know what you mean. I'm actually mad at myself for forgetting his name, as I used to draw him and Mouser and Birdo and the rest of the gang ALL THE TIME as a kid. Honestly, I was obsessed with this game--and still am, to an extent.
Thank you for the adorable shout-out! Mario 2 was the first game I ever got to own (more than two years after it came out because we were poor as hell) and I played it so much and I still love it to death.
Hey there, Shmorky! Thanks for the comment. Also, you're very welcome! Your art is awesome, so I'm glad I could introduce others to it today. And I'm sure I'll direct them to more of your stuff in the future if what's currently on your tumblr is any indication :)
I'd love it if Nintendo made an eshop game that played like Super Mario Bros. 2(USA)/Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic. Maybe they could make it so that you could play as both the Mario and Doki Doki Panic characters.
Oh, I'd love that, too, Sam. Or maybe the characters from Doki Doki Panic could be unlockable somehow--such as after beating the game?
