Seven galaxies in ...

... and I can already say, without a smidge of hesitation, that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a better game than its predecessor.

For starters, it adds good ol' Yoshi to the mix. Oh, and the Cloud Suit--which is, in my opinion, the series' slickest power-up since Kuribo's Shoe.

I could spend hours on this stage...

Also, it eschews the last game's confounding "Comet Observatory" hub in favor of a map system that's similar to the series' more traditional, two-dimensional efforts (Super Mario Bros. 3, especially).

Finally, part two is, thus far, decidedly more difficult than its pushover of a predecessor.

That said, I'm only a few galaxies in at this point, so it's possible my opinion of the game will change as I delve deeper into it.

Are any of you also enjoying Miyamoto's latest masterpiece?

It's amazing. Amazing! The levels just get more interesting as you go, honestly. I just finished the final Bowser fight today. Pretty sweet.

And now? Even more goodness!

I'm still wondering what the deal is with them saying there's 240 Stars, though...

So you got it? Woo hoo! And you've already beaten Bowser -- I'm jealous :)

I'm taking my sweet time with it at the moment, and enjoying every second. Honestly, as much as I loved the first one, I think this one is much better.

Other than that, it's nice to see you around these parts again :)

I caught up reading, but the day I did it Blogger was broken and I couldn't comment...boo.

But yeah...I actually don't really like the world-by-world format of this game. I thought the Comet Observatory from SMG1 was a better hub world and a more compelling reason to keep exploring.

But other than that, it's better in every way!

Huh. I didn't hate SMG1's hub, but I didn't love it either. Actually, I loved it at the beginning, but later on I started to dislike it because I kept forgetting where I was supposed to go, etc. So, I'm pretty happy with SMG2's more streamlined approach. That said, I completely understand this is one of those "different strokes for different folks" situations.

Yup. But hey, it's not about the hub at all. It's about the LEVELS!!! And they're SO AMAZING! The more I see the more I like...but me and SMG2 are on the out-and-out...it and I had a swearing fight yesterday while I was trying to get stars in comet-enhanced galaxies...can you say RIDICULOUS?!

Ha ha! Well, I guess SMG2 and I are in for a swearing fight, too, since the latter levels of SMG nearly caused me to pull my hair out. So, in a way it'll be just like the good old days :)
