Looks like I'll be buying Final Fantasy IV once again

I'm a sucker for the first six Final Fantasy games.

Over the years, for instance, I've bought the original Final Fantasy for the NES, the PSone (Final Fantasy Origins) and the Wii (via the Virtual Console). Likewise, I've bought Final Fantasy III for the DS and Final Fantasy IV for the SNES, PSone, GBA and Wii. (I've also bought Final Fantasy V and VI for the SNES, PSone and GBA.)

As such, it shouldn't be too shocking to hear that I'm going to be buying Final Fantasy IV once again--assuming the recently announced Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection makes its way to North America sometime next year. (It'll be released in Japan this spring.)

What will make this collection a complete one? Well, it'll combine updated (graphically, at least--see scan above) versions of Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years onto a single UMD, for starters. Also, it'll include a new scenario that will connect the two titles.

Maybe I'll buy the PSP remakes of Final Fantasy I and II in the meantime, since both can be picked up for less than $10 these days.

BTW, I'm especially happy about this announcement because I wasn't a big fan of the look of the WiiWare version of FF IV: The After Years. Hopefully the PSP remake will make things more cohesive...

Nice. I'm excited for that.

Did you ever play FF IV: The After Years, Justin? I can't remember. I know you played FF IV up until the moon, but then you ran into a problem, right?

Hmm very interesting to see this coming out. I haven't played the After Years but would love to have them come in pack-in with a remake of the first ever Final Fantasy I played. Gotta love it!

Yeah...I never ended up finishing it. So I figured The After Years wouldn't make sense to me...

Yeah, I think this will be a good way for people to play both, Famicom Freak. Plus, it'll hopefully make the games more cohesive.

Oh, I thought so, Justin. No, The After Years wouldn't make much sense if you never finished the original FF IV. Plus, it costs somewhere between $30 and $40 to buy all of The After Years via WiiWare, and I can't say I think that price tag is worth it unless you absolutely love the original (and even then it won't be worth it to some).

This is awesome news. I am a big fan of FF4, and I am also a sucker for buying whatever SquareEnix throws the name Final Fantasy on.

Also, pick up PSP FF 1 and 2; if you are fan of the original NES game, then you will LOVE the PSP version.I know I did!

Oh, yeah, I love the NES version of the original FF. I've never loved any version of FF2, but I'll still probably get it :)
