Another one bites the dust

With the "one" mentioned in the header above being an online import game shop.

Specifically, the guys behind RisingStuff.com have decided to call it quits. As a result, all of their stock--which includes a slew of Dreamcast, Famicom, Mega Drive, PC Engine, PS1/PS2, Saturn and Super Famicom games--is now 60 percent off.

The Rising Stuff store will close its virtual doors once and for all on Jan. 31, so check it out soon if you're on the lookout for a few import titles.

Speaking of online import game shops that are giving up the ghost, the guy behind WolfGames.com is still trying to clear his stock. Orders of one to six games receive a 40 percent discount, while orders of seven to 13 games get a 50 percent discount and orders of 14 or more games get a whopping 60 percent discount.

It is too bad, they had really good prices. I never bought stuff from them, but generally they were the ones I'd recommend.

A rather amazing coincidence is that they are located on the same island that I am (Kyushu). I'm in the big city though and they are in the Kyushu equivalent of "hicksville" (Oita prefecture, middle of nowhere). When I realized that (its on their site) it really made me wonder how they got so many games living out there.

They did have good prices! I think their stock left a bit to be desired, though. Maybe that's why they're going under?

Wolfgames has/had some great stock, but the prices there are quite a bit higher. Still, you can get some good deals right now. Speaking of which, I just bought a couple of games from this site :)

Anyway, I didn't realize the guys behind Rising Stuff lived on the island you live on. That's pretty cool!

I never purchased anything from Rising Stuff, but I've been buying games from Matt at Wolfgames for about ten years now. He's definitely one of the most knowledgeable and reliable sellers I've ever come across, and it was from him that I obtained some of my most cherished titles (Madou Monogatari and Sapphire among them).

It was also nice that he lived nearby so I'd receive packages just one day after he'd ship them. :)

Care to share what games you bought, Bryan?

I've never purchased anything from Rising Stuff either, IvaNEC. I've often checked out the site, but despite its stock I've never found anything that called to me.

I've bought a game or two from Wolfgames, though. Actually, I meant to make quite an order when Matt first started his close-out sale, but after a few of the games I wanted were taken by others I kind of changed my mind.

I changed my mind again a few days ago, though, and bought two titles from him: Monster Lair for the PC Engine and Flying Hero for the Famicom (which I've mentioned here before but only played via emulation until now).

I may buy a few more this weekend. We'll see :)

BTW, I'm completely jealous that you own Madou Monogatari and Sapphire. I especially want the foromer at some point, even though I won't be able to understand it :)

Nice on the Monster Lair. It's too darn long for its own good, but it's still good fun.

Madou is the most charming, endearing game I've ever played. I think those qualities will shine through even if you can't understand a single word of it.

Monster Lair's length doesn't bother me because I kind of suck at it :) That said, I've always had a soft spot for it.

I've actually had the US version of it for some time, but I really wanted the Japanese version and it was pretty darn cheap at Wolfgames, so...

As for Madou, you're making me want it all the more :( Unfortunately, it's one of the most expensive PCE games out there. I think I'm just going to bite the bullet at some point and buy it (when I have the money, of course), although it's going to have to wait a while (and wait until I get Parasol Stars and a few other cheaper PCE games I've been meaning to buy for some time).

Yeah, Madou will probably cost you a good $120-150. And of course you'll need the Arcade Card too (if you don't already own one). Like you say, you might as well take care of the cheaper stuff first. It's nice that the PCE has so many amazing cheap games to go along with the expensive gems. Its library is so deep.

Yeah, that's about what I'm expecting to pay for it. And, yes, I have to buy an arcade card, too, although I imagine that won't change the bottom line all that much.
