Nintendo opens up about the North American launch of the 3DS

During a press event held earlier today, the folks at Nintendo of America (finally) loosened their lips regarding the soon-to-be-released 3DS system.

Specifically, they revealed that the system will hit the streets in North America on March 27--which means we'll be getting it one month later than the Japanese and two days later than Europeans. Two colors will be available at that time, Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black, and both will carry the same price tag ($249.99). (For more juicy tidbits from today's press event, check out this tinycartridge.com post.)

The system is available for pre-order at Amazon.com, so head over there if you just have to have one at launch.

More info on the 3DS can be found in this NeoGAF post, by the way -- http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=419208

Shit. Well that price tag almost guarantees I won't be seeing one of those for my birthday. Damn. I can't believe it costs more than my Wii did...

Yeah, it's definitely going to be interesting to see how the masses take this price. I have a feeling it's going to sell out all of this year regardless, but I think if Nintendo wants this system to be a DS-size success, they're going to have to drop the price to at least $199 in 2012.

Absolutely. I don't think I can wait that long to have it, though...damn it.

It's definitely going to be tough to be on the sidelines, especially (for me) as games like Paper Mario 3DS are released. Ugh!
