Let's Play: 'Which Box Art is Better?' (Disgaea 4 edition)

One of the first games I'll buy after I (finally) obtain a PS3 will be Disgaea 4. No ifs, ands or buts about it. Until then, I'll stare longingly at the game's beautiful box art.

But which piece of art will I stare at--the one that graced the cover of the Japanese version of this Nippon Ichi-developed game (released in late February), or the one that will welcome Disgaea fans when the series' latest sequel appears on store shelves in the States sometime in the next few months?

Here's Disgaea 4's Japanese box art, by the way:

And here's the game's US box art:

Hold on to your hats, because I'm actually going with the US box art for once. The Japanese art is nice enough, but it's a bit too busy, don't you think?

Hmmm, will I be the only one who chooses the SU box art? I guess we'll find out soon enough!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, BTW :)

Again...I'm going to have to disagree with you. I think the Japanese art gives way more for someone to ponder. "Who are all these characters and why do they all get to be on the cover?" With the US art, I just thought, "Oh...another generic anime-inspired game...and...penguins?!"

What is this, gang up on Bryan day? Ha ha, just kidding :) Actually, I like both box arts, so I can't say I disagree with you. Well, I disagree that the US art is generic, but I agree that the Japanese art gives people something to ponder.

Sorry to join the gang-up, but I think I like the Japanese one better too. There is actually less stuff cluttering that one up. The US one has that "NIS America "logo in the lower right, the parental warning thing on the lower left and that additional banner on the top. The only thing the Japanese one has is that "CERO" thing in the lower left corner. Also the game title is set lower on the Japanese one, giving the art itself more continuous room on the cover.

I agree that the US art is better. The JP one looks way, way too similar to the art for the original Disgaea (and yeah, it's awfully busy). The US art is more distinct.

Oh, sure, Sean, join the club! ;)

Actually, I agree with at least one thing you said in your comment: The bunched-up logos on the US box could be moved around a bit.

Also, I find it funny, in a way, that the Japanese cover doesn't seem to feature the NIS logo, but the US cover does.

Ah, I've always liked you, Zigfried :)
