Would this ad have prompted more Americans to purchase a TurboDuo?

Probably not, but it couldn’t have hurt.

The folks at NEC (or TTI) would have had to redo the commercial’s song, though, since I can’t make out most of what’s being said in the current version.

I can hear, “let’s spend the night together!” at the beginning, for instance, and then the next thing I can make out is, “together having fun”--which comes just before the oh-so-cheerful chorus. The only other part I understand is the last line: “Look on the bright side of your life!”

All that said, I’ve watched the darn thing about 10 times now, so clearly it can be enjoyed quite a bit despite the language difficulties.

Ha! Yes, I guess viewers could see it that way :)

That is pretty awesome!

I have a PC Engine Duo, but it is completely broken. Seeing this commercial really makes me want to get a new one.

You sure have a lot of broken systems, Sean! Don't you have a broken PC Engine CD-ROM2 system, too?

Anyway, yes, you should get one someday. Or get a working PC Engine CD-ROM2 system. That's what I'm holding out for.

I love my Core Grafx II + Super CD-ROM2 system, but I've always wanted one of the original PCE CD systems :)

"P-Shi Engine DUO!" Such a jaunty tune :D. I think the PC Engine GT ad would've done more to sway US buyers though. You'll know it when you see it :D.

Oh, SURE, Retronick -- you say something like that and then don't share a link? For shame!

Actually, I'm only saying that because I just searched YouTube for "PC Engine GT" ads/commercials and couldn't find anything. Can you point me in the right direction?

Yup, I have lots of broken ones! I paid only 100 yen for my broken PC Engine Duo, CIB with everything. I figured at that price it was worth the chance that it might work (the controller and cables alone are worth more than 100 yen). In the end, I couldn't get it to load Hucard games properly (always get a distorted image). So it sits on a shelf.

I'm not sure if my CD-Rom 2 works or not, I don't have the proper power cable to test it. I'm hoping it'll work!

Sorry, looked for the spot and I can't find it :-\. I offer two crazy commercials in its place (until I find it again that is):

Well, that makes sense -- buying the broken ones both for the chance that they may work plus for the parts that are salvageable.

Here's hoping you get a working one soon -- or that you find the CD-ROM2 does, in fact, work!

Retronick: Thanks for sharing links of those two commercials. I've seen them before, but both are worth watching more than once, IMO.

If you ever find the PC Engine GT one, though, let me know. I want to see it!

Ha! Is he supposed to be a Japanese Andy Warhol or something? Regardless, it's definitely interesting. Thanks for sending the link! I'll check out the rest of them tomorrow...

Yeah, the bit at then end with the cats and the surfer reflected in his glasses were the most confusing parts for me.
