Reason #405 I could be considered an 'eccentric' (aka bat-sh*t crazy) gamer

A larger part of me than I'd like to admit wants to buy a complete-in-box copy of the Famicom version of Bubble Bobble 2.

I consider that to be crazy for a few reasons. One, I've never really liked Bubble Bobble 2 (released in North America as Bubble Bobble Part 2)--which I tend to consider inferior to Taito's original effort in every possible way. Two, complete-in-box copies of this game can be a bit "pricey"--as in, I could either buy Bubble Bobble 2 at some point next year or I could buy a 3DS XL (assuming prices for this rare title are trending low, that is).

I severely doubt I'll ever go through with this rather harebrained scheme, but you never know. I've done some completely bat-shit crazy things over the years because of cute box art, after all.

Inferior in every way is the perfect way to describe this. I played a rom way back when, and...ugh. I was SO let down.

Save your pennies and get the 3DS XL if you're itching to spend that money.

I'm counting the days to the 3DS XL release for two reasons. One, we'll be at Indy Gen Con with friends (first gaming con ever!), and two, NSMB2!

Yeah, I just gave it another go before writing this post, Justin, and ... ugh. It really isn't a good game, is it? I actually discovered this time around that not *everything* about it is terrible, but most things about it are.

Anyway, like I said in the post, I severely doubt I'll ever go through with it. I'd have to own everything I want to own (in a retro sense, at least) for me to even consider it and, well, if you saw my current wish list you'd see that isn't happening anytime soon.

I'm jealous of your impending trip to the Indy Gen Con, by the way. Never heard of it until now, but if it's a gaming con, that's all I need to know! Have fun and let me know how it goes, will you?

Yeah I'd go with the 3DS XL too! lol Too bad they don't have more color options available in the US! I really like the Japanese all white one! I have the Zelda 3DS so Imma prolly stick with that until they come out with a 2 thumbstick model (or maybe a green 3DS XL lol)

I totally understand you wanting Bubble Bobble 2 though! It's the collector instinct and you're a huge fan of the series and genre! ^^ I was considering trying to get a copy too a year ago or so. That is before I was smacked in the face with the price! lol

@Viewtiful_Justin You'll have a blast an Gencon! I went last year it was a lot of fun! :D

Hey there, Kaze! Well, there's no way in hell I'm buying a 3DS XL until the all-white one is released in the US. Even then, I may wait until a pink one is released either here or in Japan. (I'm totally open to buying a Japanese 3DS at this point.)

As for me wanting to buy this game: Yes, I think a lot of it has to do with my collector instinct, as you put it. Also, my love of the Bubble Bobble series, and my love of good box art, too. Like you said, though, the price for this one is rather insane. Don't worry, I'll likely do the right thing in the end :P

Never say never, you might win the lottery someday or something:)

There is a loose copy of this at Mandarake in their glass showcase that I pause to inspect on occasion. I think the price is about 80$ or something (can`t remember off the top of my head exactly but its expensive).

Its a cool looking cart, a little bit different shape to it than most Taito releases. Like you I am always tempted but can never justify `pulling the trigger` at that price!

Hey there, Sean :) Eh, if you think $80 for a loose copy of this game is bad, wait 'til you see the price of a CIB copy! Honestly, the only way I'll buy this game is CIB, as that's the main reason I want it (the box art). Even then, I'm unlikely to ever do so -- which I'm pretty OK with, given my rather 'meh' reaction to its graphics and gameplay.
