A little K.K. Slider fan art to tide some of us over until Animal Crossing: New Leaf arrives

So, I was this close to buying and downloading a digital copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf last night. I got all the way to the "Add Funds" button on the 3DS eShop, actually, but after pausing there for a few seconds I came to the--surprisingly level-headed, I think, given my purchase history--conclusion that spending about $70 on two copies of this game (I pre-ordered the retail version long ago via Newegg) may not be the wisest use of my hard-earned cash.

As a result, I'm now rather impatiently waiting for my physical copy of New Leaf to make its way to my doorstep while huge swaths of my North American brothers and sisters busy themselves with setting up their own characters and towns.

Will the piece of K.K. Slider fan art above, produced by illustrious Atlanta-based illustrator Drew Green, help make that wait a little more bearable? Probably not, but it should make it a bit more enjoyable.

Signed, 11-inch-by-17-inch prints of this illustration can be bought for $12 (plus shipping) from Green's etsy shop, ArtDrewveau, by the way.

Aside from all of the above, how many of you nabbed a digital copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf last night or will be grabbing a physical copy of it sometime today? And for those of you who bought one or the other (or both, I guess), what did you decide to name your character and what did you name your town?

I downloaded my copy at midnight. There wasn't a lot to do without shops to sell fishing rods and nets, but it was a start. I named my town Dunwich.

On the positive side, by the time your physical copy arrives there will be plenty of established towns to visit with more to explore than the bare minimum.

Ah, I didn't think about that, Terry. So, having to wait a few days isn't the worst thing in the world after all :)

BTW, where does Dunwich come from, if you don't mind me asking? Or was it just a random product of your imagination?

And is your character named Terry or Zaphod or something else entirely?

Sorry for all of the questions :)

I took my town's name from "The Dunwich Horror," a short story by H.P. Lovecraft. I even sent letters to some of the residents warning them about the crawling terror from beyond the stars. lol

I named my character Terry. I used one of the face guides to get the look semi-close until I can get a Mii mask from Shampoodle.

Oh, that's great! I love it when people use names/titles from other sources--games, movies, novels, etc.--for their characters and/or towns.

I'm going to be naming my male character Bryan, of course, but my female character will be named after someone from Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light :)

I'm interested in reading your impressions on New Leaf. I really didn't care for the DS iteration, but I've been considering purchasing it for reasons I don't entirely understand myself.

The fan art is quite nice though.

Love this piece!

I must admit, seeing all the screenshots from the English version is making me want a copy for myself... I think the dialogue really is more fun in English! Love all the sass ;) Ah well, maybe someday!

Oh, I'm definitely going to let you know what I think of it, Matt!

BTW, I can tell you right now that I didn't like the DS iteration either, but I've loved every other iteration of the series--i.e., the GC and Wii versions.

It's great, isn't it?

As for the English ones being sassy--I like that, too!

BTW, I recently bought the N64 version of the game and I'm hoping to use it to learn a little Japanese. Anyway, I'm curious to see what the dialogue of the Japanese original is like compared to the NA GC one.

Awesome! Looking forward to hearing what you think of it :)

You know I'll let you know! Of course, I'm likely to understand very little of it for some time to come, but that's OK :)

I had to work all day on Sunday, which was torture, but then I went out to get it and played it all evening. So amazing. My character I named Trigg, which came about from naming my DQ9 character way back when. My town is New Pork, an homage to Mother 3. I'm loving it all, and I ended up with SNAKE in my town, one of my favorites!

Justin Difazzio said...

BTW, when are you set to get it?!

thegaygamer.com said...

Awesome! I love the town name. And the fact that Snake is one of your neighbors, of course. Ah!!

It shipped yesterday/today, so I'm hoping by Wednesday. Gah, the wait it going to KILL me. Oh, well, at least it means I can put in a few more days with The Denpa Men 2...

Thanks! I've been naming all my Sim City cities after food, and then I thought of that and went, "Oh! Mother 3! YES!" So...there's that. I made my town song the sound stone melody from Earthbound. I'm so freaking doomed...this game is eating my life.

Ha! I love hearing that it's eating your life--if only because I know it's going to eat MY life, too. My husband's already dreading the game's arrival on our doorstep :)
