Like someone just said on YouTube, this is some shovelware I can get behind

I can't be the only person who's kind of forgotten about this 3DS, Wii U and PC title since it found success via Kickstarter earlier this year, can I?

Regardless, it's back on my radar now--thanks to the following trailer, which found its way onto YouTube late last week.

My only issue with Shovel Knight and its makers, Yacht Club Games, is that it's not going to see the light of day until sometime in February.

Once it does, though, you can rest assured I'll be picking it up in form or fashion. At the moment I'm planning to buy the 3DS release, although it's possible I'll get the Wii U version instead (assuming I have a Wii U by then, of course).

Are any of you also champing at the bit to get your hands on this game?

That looks neat. I see some DuckTales and Zelda II influence in there, with some Mega Man. I'd buy it for the 3DS.

I always get this game confused with Steamworld Dig. I lost interest in Shovel Knight when I saw an article where the developer was comparing it to Dark Souls. But I'll wait and see what people say when it comes out before I make any final judgements.

The developer compared it to Dark Souls? That seems ... weird. Of course, everyone seemingly wants to compare their tough-as-nails game to Dark Souls these days, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Anyway, the game looks like a medieval take on Mega Man to me, personally.

Yes, it definitely seems to have been influenced by the Capcom games of the NES era, in particular. Which is a great thing, IMO. Hopefully it can compare to those games when it comes to gameplay...

Yeah it's actually the name of the article on Siliconera. I'm just hoping it's not another Terraria (which is completely unplayable for me). http://www.siliconera.com/2013/04/10/how-shovel-knight-is-inspired-by-dark-souls/

I was so ready to dismiss Shovel Knight outright as something Terraria-esque (there are so many games like that now!), but it's nothing like that at all. It reminds me the most of Mega Man, but without the boss order/weapon gimmick, of course..

You know I'm all over this! :) I'm getting the 3DS version via their Kickstarter. I got to try it out while at PAX, it's very good!

You've watched trailers of it, right? To me, this looks much more like Duck Tales X Mega Man than Terraria. It's an action game, first and foremost. Or that's my impression so far.

Yes, it definitely looks to be more of a straight-up action game, a la Duck Tales and Mega Man. Which is a good thing, IMO.

Oh, that's good to hear, Michael. I passed on backing it via Kickstarter, but I'm definitely itching to buy it anyway once it's out.

Doesn't this game have some ex-Wayforward working on it?

I'm looking to buy the 3DS version but one thing I want to know is if the Multi-player is going to be on 3DS but that's not a deal breaker for me. I'm also curious about which of the other Knights will will win the play-able character poll thing their doing and what the gender-swapped mode version of the characters will look like.
