Of course, it's possible I'm just reading too much into this quote, which Francis (melonjaywalk's actual first name) posted alongside his pixelated painting:
"I feel lame to the max seeming as the only way I could identify a character as 'gay' in this is via the colour pink, but I guess being obvious is better than abstraction at this point."
The sprites included in this acrylic-on-canvas creation were pulled from 1995's Super Bomberman 3 (SNES/Super Famicom), by the way--which is one of the few Bomberman games I've yet to experience.

I'm not sure what's controversial about the Far Cry 4 cover art. But this is a pretty clear message.
As far as I'm aware, Justin, the Far Cry 4 cover art has been criticized by some folks for featuring what's assumed to be an overly stereotypical gay man (pink suit, hand gesture, etc.). Or maybe the criticism was that the pink suit was akin to screaming, "Hey, he's gay! Get it?" I may be wrong, though, as I can't say I paid much attention to this particular bit of controversy.
There's also the colonialist aspect of the white dude with his hand on the native like he's some kind of pet, and that the guy has his feet on a holy statue and showing some intense disrespect to it in the process.
Ah, I missed that aspect, Terry--unfortunately :( Sounds like the cover art's a mess in all sorts of ways. Sigh.
