One more game I'll be buying after I (finally) get a Vita: Pix the Cat

I've been aware of this digital PS4 and Vita title for a couple of weeks now, and every time I think of it, I want it--and a system that will allow me to play it--a little more than I wanted it the last time it popped into my head.

Why is that? For starters, Pix the Cat was made by the crew at Paris-based Pastagames, whose past products include one of my favorite XBLIG titles, Arkedo Series: 03 Pixel, as well as the superb (and sadly under-appreciated) DS gem, Maestro! Jump in Music.

Also, there's the following trailer:

NeoGAF user Sir TapTap recently described Pix the Cat as being akin to Pac-Man ChuChu Snake Rocket Championship Edition DX+--or a mash-up of the ancient Snake game, Pac-Man Championship Edition and Sega's ChuChu Rocket!--which of course makes me want it even more.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely I'll be able to buy this game--or, for that matter, a Vita--until the end of the year. In the meantime, I guess I'll have to continue lusting after the trailer above and poring over Tiny Cartridge's recent write-up of the title.

I had a PS3 for so long that I forgot how to be someone who is out of the loop. Hrm.

Ha! And now you're back out of the loop because you lack a Vita and/or PS4, Justin? I hear you... :|

OMG, that game is nuts. I'm not sure I would've bought it on my own, but I downloaded it and tried it because it was free to PlayStation Plus subscribers. Playing it is like watching that I Love Lucy episode with the chocolate factory; it starts out so easy and then holy-crap-what-am-i-doing-ICAN'TKEEPUPAAAAAAAH. lol

Oh, that's a lovely way to describe it, Terry--and it only makes me want the game more. Ahhh!!

I was lucky enough to get this game for free, as I'm currently a member of PS Plus. Calling it a hybrid of Pac-Man Champ DX and Snake is pretty apt, but there's also a puzzle mode where Pix can only turn after hitting walls. It's maddeningly challenging... be prepared to squeeze off a few expletives while playing it!

My only major beef with the game is that the load times are monstrous. Really, you have no idea. They're probably better on the PS4, but if you're planning on picking up the Vita game, be prepared to twiddle your thumbs for a while.

Speaking of which... are you going to buy the Vita or that Playstation TV that was recently released?

Oh, that sounds great, Jess--and kind of horrible, too, if that makes sense! Also, it sounds like I should play this right after I finish playing Solitiba, as that would allow me to continue swearing like a sailor each and every night while my husband watches tennis on TV :P

As for whether I'm planning to buy an actual Vita or a PS TV: although I briefly considered picking up a PS TV, I'm now back to thinking I'll get the real deal. For starters, I don't like that you can't play all Vita games on the PS TV. Plus, I far, FAR prefer playing games anywhere I please, as opposed to sitting in front of the TV, these days, which also points to the Vita being the better option for me.

Sad to hear about the horrible load times while playing this game on the Vita, though :|

Vita load times are ridiculous. The button response seems to have some delay as well. It's fantastic on PS4. The puzzle mode is probably my most played mode is great as a break from the arcadey goodness of the other classic mode. I haven't unlocked the nostalgia mode.

My only gripe is having to unlock game modes. I would've bought this in a heartbeat if the price was right.

Ah, yes, I've heard about the lag in the Vita version, which is really disappointing. I wonder why that is? Also, I have to say I'm kind of surprised by the price. I know it's free for PSN members, which is great, but $16 for everyone else seems a tad high. Oh, well!

I agree with you. I'd max pay $10.00. It's the sort of game that could do crazy numbers on a PSN sale.

Yep, $10 seems about right to me, too. Of course, I'm guessing that's what we'll see eventually.
