I'm sure I'd love this in-the-works Bubble Bobble clone called Drop Wizard ... if I could play it

It's no secret that I love so-called Bubble Bobble clones.

As such, I guess it shouldn't be much of a surprise to hear that I'm feeling a bit gaga about the game, called Drop Wizard, showcased in the trailer below. I mean, it's got an adorable, cherubic protagonist, similarly aww-inspiring enemies and all kinds of collectible fruit--how could I not go a bit gaga over it?

And then there's the cherry on top: its gameplay looks to include elements of one of my favorite Bubble Bobble clones, Snow Bros.

The only downside I can see to Drop Wizard at the moment is that the levels shown in this trailer seem a bit sparse--although that may be due to it being an iOS game?

Actually, it being an iOS game is another downside, if I'm to be honest. That's not me ripping on iOS game, mind you; it's me whining about the fact that I can't play this particular one because I don't own an iOS device.

Developers Neutronized suggest in the comments section of the trailer above that they'd like to follow up the initial iOS release with Android, PC, PS3/4/Vita, Wii U and 3DS versions, though, so here's hoping they're able to make that dream a reality sometime soon.

If they only release it on iOS I will never play it. And I'll also hate them (>.<)

Ha! You and me both, Simon :)

iOS? Sheesh, this stuff should go straight to Android first. I mean, c'mon, the market penetration is much deeper thanks to the price gap between the two brands. I recently bought an Android phone with a quad core processor for forty dollars, new! An iPod Touch from 2010 will cost you at least that much.

Android 4LYFE, is what I guess I'm saying.

Anyway, I'll keep my eyes out for this one... as soon as it reaches a format I actually have. I don't think the first gen iPod Touch I've got stashed away in my dresser drawer is gonna cut it.

Well, the devs have said they're looking to release it elsewhere, so don't lose hope yet, Jess!

Digital-only is a quick fire way to go out into Vita-land and die. Shame my cousin that had it on SNES says it's a great game once the disorienting camera stops affecting you. He also told me that it's one of those Etrian Odyssey style exploration games. I hope it lives up to cousin's hype.

I hear ya, Chief, although in the defense of the folks at Xseed, what we're really talking about here is a PSP game, and it 2014/15 that's a hard sell for folks in NA. As such, I can understand why they're going digital-only. That said, I also hope they have rather low expectations for the game, because I really have a hard time imagining there are a ton of NA Vita owners out there who want to play an old, niche-y PSP game these days :|

Oh, and as for what your cousin said about this game: that's great! Supposedly the camera is much better in this version, thankfully. Other than that, I love dungeon-crawlers a la Etrian Odyssey, so you know I'll pick it up if I'm able.

It seems like a budget title so, the numbers shouldn't be too out there.

It is an A-RPG. Etrian Odyssey style exploration is the way to get through the game. With that said, the niche titles like this really moved numbers on the PSP. Ports, remakes, remasters, & spin-offs seem to at home on these handhelds. Sadly tablets have been eating away at this in Japan :-( & localizing has slowed down because of this.

Looks like we're back to the Nintendo handheld monopoly. :-(

Yes, I certainly hope it's a budget title for Xseed! Also, I have to imagine their original plan was for this to come out here sooner. I mean, it was released in Japan back in 2009! Yikes!

Anyway, the handheld situation is what it is. It's sad all around, if you ask me. I mean, sure, we may soon be back to the "Nintendo handheld monopoly," as you call it, but what does that mean? After all, even Nintendo may falter in that area next time around, which would leave us with ... :|
