DS owners: Get ready to 'Jam with the Band'

Early this morning, the PR folks at Nintendo of Europe shed a little light on their employer's summer software line-up. All of the games included on said list were expected except one: Jam with the Band.

Pat yourself on the back if the title sounds familiar, as it was first mentioned nearly six years ago when Nintendo of America announced it would be bringing Daigasso! Band Brothers, a DS launch title in Japan, to the States.

Nintendo's American and European mouthpieces have had little to say about the music game since--until today, of course. Unfortunately, a few mysteries remain. For instance, is Jam with the Band a localization of the original Daigasso! Band Brothers or its sequel, Daigasso! Band Brothers DX? Also, we know it'll be released in Europe on May 21, but will it be released in North America too? If so, when?

I'll be picking it up regardless, but I'd rather buy it locally than import it from some European game shop like

Huh. With as excited as you are about this, I think I am, too. What is it?

It's a music game, basically. You play different parts of various songs, using the d-pad and the a/b/x/y buttons. Some of the songs included are licensed, some are public domain and others are from Nintendo games. Oh, and there's a robust music-creation element, too.

I have the Japanese version of the sequel, Daigasso! Band Bros. DX, and I love it. Unfortunately, the language barrier has kept me from diving too far into the game, so I'm really looking forward to an English version.

This video -- -- is of a song (from Earthbound) someone created using the music-creation tools. Notice the arrows and letters -- they tell you which button you're supposed to push and at what time.

Does that make any sense?

Hopefully Nintendo will put a demo or two of the title on line around its release, as that would really help people understand what the game's all about.

OHH! Alright, then! That makes much more sense. And now I really AM looking forward to this.

And you really must know what I like...Earthbound as an example? Brilliant!

Ha ha! Well, I'm glad I've interested you. Now Nintendo of America just has to announce its release :(

One of the reasons I'm really looking forward to it is so I can spend some more time with the music-creation element of the game (which seems to be like the one in Mario Paint, but better). Most of the time I've spent with the Japanese version of the sequel was spent playing the main part of the game.
