If I were forced at gunpoint--hey, it could happen--to pick my favorite 8-bit Super Mario Bros. game, I'd probably go with Super Mario Bros. 2.
And if the gunman--or gunwoman--made me choose a favorite character from said game? I'd point to Princess Peach (aka Princess Toadstool).
As such, it shouldn't be much of a shock to hear me say (see me write?) that I'm a big fan of the following piece of art, produced by deviantartist pluckylump.

I kind of love this. The 8 bit piece of lothing she's holding is an amazing touch!
But...SUPER MARIO 2?! THAT's your favorite? It's not even a real Mario game, for cryin' out loud! But it's unique and kind of cute and loads of fun anyway...so...I can see how it could be your favorite.
:-P
Yeah, the pixelated cloth/clothing she's holding is a great addition, isn't it?
Oh, and regarding my comment that SMB2 is my fave (of the 8-bit Marios) -- don't get me wrong, I love SMB and SMB3, too. I think I prefer SMB2, though, due to its art style and due to the decision its designers made to allow gamers to swap characters (and play as Peach/Toadstool).
Yeah...that was a pretty sweet addition.
