Pretty pink pads

I've owned a number of controllers over the years, but not one of them has been pink. The same can't be said of Abby Elaina Hall (aka A Bit Disarrayed on Flickr), who owns a trio of bubblegum-colored controllers (current-gen ones, no less).

I won't hate on her too much, though, since she was nice enough to take a snapshot of said controllers and then share the resulting pic (below and here) on her Flickr photostream.

That salmon-y Wii wheel is especially snazzy, isn't it? If I were still playing Mario Kart Wii (I gave it up at the suggestion of my shrink), I'd pick up one of them along with a pink Wii Remote Plus.

Haha, I got my fiancee both the PS3 and 360 pink controllers shown there! I should probably add in that Wii Wheel at some point to complete the set, since she has the pink Wiimote plus. She loves this color too, obviously! She has a pink PSP and DS, to top it all off.

My problem with pink peripherals is that all too often they seem to go for what my wife and I call "contraceptive pink", because they remind me of birth control pill containers.

A classic example is the original pink DS Lite - the hot pink DSi is so much better.

Kamiwoo: Wow, I bow down in honor of your fiancee's collection! Can you even buy the pink 360 pads anymore? If so, I'm going to have to get one.

I'd also love a pink DSi at some point. I'd like a pink PSP, too, but only a hot pink one. Most of the pink PSPs I've seen are really pale -- not my kind of pink :)

Anyway, you're going to have to snap a photo of your fiancee's collection sometime and share it with me!

Hello, Simon! Thanks for the comment :)

I love that you call the hue that's most often used on pink systems and peripherals "contraceptive pink." I can see that! It's also the same pink that's used in everything related to the Susan G Komen stuff, isn't it?

You'll think I'm weird for saying this, I'm sure, but I actually love the bubblegum-pink DSlite. My mom has one and I secretly envy it. I like the hot pink DSi, too, but not as much as the DSlite.

My first DS Lite was the original pink one

Hey there, xerosbeat! OK, now I'm jealous. Like I said in one of the comments above, I'm completely envious of my mom's bubblegum-pink DSlite. I hate the "pearl pink" ones, but the bubblegum ones are great :)

I actually had to import the pink 360 pad from Japan a couple of Xmases ago, but it was worth it! I don't think you can find it anywhere in the US anymore, and it's rare regardless.

She actually prefers the pastel/pale pinks herself, but she'll pretty much accept any kind of pink she can get!

I should have her take pics of all this, yes! I swore she did at one point, but she's added to the collection since then... I'll definitely let you know if she does!

Wow, that's pretty hardcore, Kamiwoo -- importing the 360 pad from Japan. I'm not sure I'm interested enough to do that myself -- especially considering I'd probably have to pay a premium for it.

Maybe I'll just buy a pink Wiimote Plus and be content with that :)

Anyway, yes, if your fiancee ever photographs her collection of pink controllers, let me know -- or just send me a copy!

Yeah...even an emerald green wheel wouldn't get me to pick up Mario Kart Wii again. That game ruined Mario Kart for me.

Bryan Ochalla said...

Is green your favorite color, Justin? Also, I'm surprised the game drove you so batty that it ruined the series for you. It definitely drives me nuts (pun intended), but I still like the game and the series. I just can't play it without screaming obscenities at the top of my lungs...

Yes. Green is my favorite, but SMK is not. Anymore.

Bryan Ochalla said...

Interesting! I'm sorry to hear you've jumped off the MK bandwagon, though. Maybe they'll fix things in the 3DS iteration?

Viewtiful_Justin said...

Oh, I'll buy it. The hanggliders are a great addition.

It's interesting you should say that -- I've been kind of torn on the hanggliders myself. Of course, I'm not entirely sure I'll buy the game even after I own a 3DS. I liked MK DS well enough, but I really like playing these games better on the big screen. Maybe I'll just wait until the inevitable Wii U version...
