Beyond the Labyrinth's battle scenes are as beautiful as its box art

The latest trailer for Beyond the Labyrinth, the 3DS RPG being developed by tri-Ace and published (on Jan. 19 in Japan) by Konami, is a real looker.

Unfortunately, I'm a bit confused about what's going on in the video below. I mean, it's obviously showing off the game's glorious (in my opinion) battle scenes, but we still don't know how those battles "work" or why the white-haired girl is standing in the player's way throughout most of them.

Still, this teaser is the one that put me over the edge for Beyond the Labyrinth. Earlier ones were enough to pique my interest in the title to the point that I thought, "Eh, it'd be nice if someone brought it to North America," but this one has me thinking, "If this game isn't released here next year I'm going to pluck out my eyelashes and eat them for lunch."

Tri-ace which means the battle system should be good. I hope they're back to their Valkyrie Profile storytelling form and not their recent stuff although it does look very promsing. And oh so pretty.

Eww. Eyelashes in my mouth...

The game, though, looks delicious! I'm way excited for the colorful enemies on a somewhat dreary background. It's a nice change.

Ah, I don't have any experience with tri-Ace-developed games, Retr0gamer -- or at least I don't think I do! At any rate, I'm glad to hear that you're looking forward to this one thanks to their involvement. Like you, I hope this game is good -- and, of course, that it comes to the States if it is :)

Ha! Sorry for putting that image in your mind, Justin. Anyway, yes, this game does look delicious, doesn't it? I also like the colorful enemies and what look to be magic attacks, by the way :)

Hmph. Shows those guys who prematurely judged the 3DS. Just have to give it some time to build a library.

I agree, Motherplayer. A lot of people forget/forgot that it took the DS to build up some steam (and a good collection of games), too. 2012 is going to be interesting, methinks...

The gaming press is being really annoying and basically acting like a tabloid with the 3DS. Most consoles take forever to get going and I remember having a DS at launch and it was nearly a year before any good games were released on it. 6 million 3DS consoles already sold according to VGchartz, not exactly a failure now and that big loss nintendo posted is due to the strong yen mostly, sony is posting a similar loss due to the strong yen as well. When has a console not had a rocky launch?

Ask me how I feel about Game Informer, Retr0gamer. It's a Nintendo smear rag.

Hey there, guys. Yeah, for some dumb reason a good percentage of both gamers and game writers would love to see Nintendo and its games and systems fail. I'm really not sure why that is. I mean, I've always been of the opinion that if you don't like a game or system, you just don't buy them! Anyway, these goons have been wishing and hoping for Nintendo's demise since the Nintendo 64 (if not the SNES), so I guess they're not going to go away. Sigh.

As for the 3DS, Retr0gamer, I don't know if it's going to fully follow in its predecessor's successful footsteps, but even if it only sells 3/4 as much it'll still be a tremendous success. Personally, though, all I care about is that it sells enough to get a lot of games (first-party and third-party) that I want to play. As long as that happens, I'll be a very happy gamer :)
