The Gay Gamer Giveaway™: PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (Vita) Edition

There's a rather awesome (in my opinion, of course) story behind this particular Gay Gamer Giveaway™, so I'm going to share it here. Don't worry, it won't take long to tell.

So, a few days ago (on my birthday, actually), I was blathering away on Twitter when Matthew Carrington (@Segamastermatt, also Segamaster dude on deviantart) asked me if I owned a Vita. After replying in the negative, I asked him if he had one. His answer: "No, I was going to wait on it for a while. I was asking you because I won a digital copy of PlayStation All-Stars for the Vita." After which he added: "Would you want it to give away as a contest prize or something?" Cool, eh?

As for the rules of this Gay Gamer Giveaway™: All you need to do is leave a comment below between now and 11:59 pm PST on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Don't worry about its content or length--even something like "Yo!" is fine with me. Just make sure you're identifiable in some way.

Also, should you throw your hat into the ring for this giveaway, be sure to pop your head into this here blog again on Thursday, Dec. 6, as that's when I'll announce the winner.

Please note: The code I send to the winner will only work with the US PSN store, so if you can't download Vita games in that way this probably isn't the giveaway for you.

Yo!

Hah, as if I could get away with just commenting with that! How sweet of you for hosting this giveaway and even more sweet of Matthew for offering up this code! This may be a silly question, but isn't Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale a cross-buy game, meaning if you buy the Vita version or the PS3 version, you get the other version as well? That's what I've heard, at least, but I'm not super familiar with the game.

Oh, I also have to add that I love how you've added a ™ to your Gay Gamer Giveaway title :P

:(((((( I can't participate :(((((

Marcus E said...

@apricotsushi:disqus It is cross-buy, however that only works when you buy the PS3 version. This mostly makes sense if you look at the prices: PS3 version is $60 while Vita version is $40.

Also, I am entering :). I hope that characters like Lara Croft and Crash Bandicoot may come in via DLC...

Lizzi said...

Oh how cool! I would love to get it for my vita :)
Only own two games for it... but I think there are not so many good games out yet.

You're so lucky to know people who have something like that to give it away! Everyone would love to get a free game. Good luck everybody! :D

Lizzi said...

Ah Anne , that's right you got a vita! So few people do yet. I don't know anyone here in Germany who has except me.

Lizzi said...

P.S. you never answered my friendslist-invite on PSN. :( Not using it so much huh?

thegaygamer.com said...

Yo, Anne! :P

You're very welcome, although, really, Matt's the one who deserves all the thanks. How cool is it that he offered this up? Very cool, IMO.

As for your question: Sadly, I'm so clueless about this cross-buy/cross-play stuff that I don't know what to tell you. I do know that Matt said the code is for the Vita version only and only works via the US PSN store.

Assuming that's true, you want to be considered for the giveaway, right?

thegaygamer.com said...

Oh, and I'm glad you like the little TM sign I added to the title. I did it because I thought it might be funny/silly :)

thegaygamer.com said...

Sorry, Anthony :( I'm guessing you own a Vita but can't access or buy from the US PSN store?

thegaygamer.com said...

Thanks for the assistance, Marcus! Also, you have been entered :)

thegaygamer.com said...

So, does this mean you want to be entered into the contest/giveaway, Lizzi?

thegaygamer.com said...

Oh! Honestly, I don't use it much, Lizzi :( Also, I'm not sure I would know if I've received a friendlist invite on PSN. Where would I see such a notification? I don't believe I've ever received one before :(

Lizzi said...

Oh I guess I couldn't use the code? Because I would have to use the german/european PSN-store. Or am I wrong?

Lizzi said...

Me neither so I have no idea where you would see the notification. But you never added me to your 3DS-friendslist either :( I guess that's because your post about your friend-code is just too old. I left my comment reaaaally late. ^^
The way you have to add a person to your friendslist on the 3DS is so difficult! I wish you would just get an invite :(

thegaygamer.com said...

Hmmmm, I'll dig around PSN the next time I'm on my PSP, OK?

As for swapping 3DS friend codes: I didn't see your comment about that because I had to trash that particular post a while back. (It was attracting a LOT of SPAM commenters.)

If you share your 3DS FC here, though--or send it to me via e-mail--I'll be sure to add you! My 3DS FC is 3050-8125-7171, by the way.

thegaygamer.com said...

Unfortunately, I don't quite know enough about how the Vita handles these kinds of things to know if you could or couldn't use the code.

I would say, though, that if you currently use the German/Euro store, you probably wouldn't be able to use this code :(

Lizzi said...

I know, I saw those awkward comments already back then. Oh you're still on my waiting list on my 3DS. Here's my fc: 5370-0814-5821 Thank you Bryan :)

Alan Rappaport said...

My birthday is IN a few days... well, a few weeks maybe, but still. Just saying ;)

thegaygamer.com said...

Yeah, I couldn't deal with those awkward/weird comments, so I got rid of the post entirely. Of course, my 3DS FC can be found near the top of the blog anyway, so it wasn't really needed anymore.

BTW, I *just* added you to my list, so we should be 3DS friends now ^_^

thegaygamer.com said...

Ha! Sorry, Alan, I can't just give it to you--although I do appreciate your gusto :) Anyway, thanks for entering and good luck to you!

Jean-Guy Spencer said...

I have a Vita with a US account and love your blog! Keep up the good work from all your gaymer fans in Toronto!

thegaygamer.com said...

Thanks, Jean-Guy! Consider yourself entered in the giveaway :)

Tom Badguy said...

I don't have a Vita so please don't include me in the contest. But I will plug this on Twitter.

Chalgyr said...

Yo!

No seriously, I had to lead with that on principle. Cool giveaway though, Bryan. :)

I also saw the comment down below about adding you on PSN - but I don't believe I've aded you yet. I'll have to do so later as I now noticed the various id's in the right hand column. If you ever want to beat me to the punch, just look up Chalgyr on PSN, Steam or Xbox Live.

thegaygamer.com said...

Ha! I love you, Tom. Well, not really love, but ... well, you know what I mean. Anyway, thanks for plugging this post! (Erm, that sounds a bit funny, doens't it?)

thegaygamer.com said...

Will do, Chalgyr!

BTW, this means you want to be entered into the giveaway, yes??

Lizzi said...

Alright, thanks. If there was no notification: my PSN nickname is "Dead_Melody". I guess we should get friends if we add eachother.

thegaygamer.com said...

Thanks, Lizzi! I'll be sure to look you up. Just know that I don't have a PS3 (yet) and I don't play my PSP as much as I should :(

Lizzi said...

Yup no problem.

I can just recommend the PS3. When I bought the Xbox 360 (soon after the release when the PS3 wasn't out yet) I really loved my Xbox. But soon I had some ring of deaths and other problems. But untill last year I was sure that it was waaaay better than the PS3. But I bought one of the old, big, shiny versions of the PS3. It was used and a good offer so I thought it would be a clever investigation to get some only-on-PS3-games. Since that moment I'm so in love with my PS3. I barely use my Xbox now and buy all new multi-platform-games for my PS3 (one of the reasons is the free online multiplayer). I know everybody talks about the PS4 atm but believe me you'll love the PS3 :) And even if there are not so many good games for the PSvita out yet I really love my vita. The touchscreen on both sides, two analog-sticks, mobile internet, good graphics and handling and it feels and looks good. I'll totally buy titles like:
-Gravity Rush
-Dinasty Warriors Next
-New Little Kings Story
-Persona 4 Golden
-Uncharted Golden Abyss
-Little Big Planet
-Jet Set Radio HD

BTW maybe I'll add you on Xbox Live soon too. About the Wii-fc:
how does that work?
I only know how to visit people in Animal Crossing CF. I didn't even know there is such a thing as a Wii-fc. :/

thegaygamer.com said...

Thanks for the PS3 push, Lizzi :) I'm hoping to pick one up next year, but we'll see. The price still has to come down a bit for me to buy one. When that happens, though, I'll be there--especially if Sony brings the white Super Slim to the US. I already have a nice list of PS3 games to buy, of course :)

As for the Vita: I'm sure it's a great system, as I'm already a huge fan of the PSP, but I likely won't get one for some time, if ever. I just have too many other games and systems to buy, you know? That said, I'm glad you're enjoying yours.

Oh, and, yes, add me on Xbox Live sometime, if you remember it. I don't use my 360 much, to be honest, but I'd still like to connect with you there.

I don't know if I'd bother with adding me on the Wii, though. I don't really play any games that make use of the Wii FC at the moment, and considering I'll be switching to the Wii U next year, there's probably little point in exchanging Wii FCs at this point. In fact, I've been thinking of removing my Wii FC from the blog, as I doubt anyone is going to be interested in it from here on out.

Lizzi said...

Yes, I understand not buying the vita because it is reaaaally expensive in my opinion. I just wanted to say that it is unterestimated. That makes me sad because it is a great system with huge potential.

I'm so excited about how the Wii U manages the connection between the players and if the internet finally can be used. It never worked right when I tried it. Also the Wii had never a good online-multiplayer. Most games only had local multiplayer.

About the PS3: you can always ask me to tell you which games I would recommend to you for the PS3 :) I would be honored if you ask me for help in any kind of way. You know my game-collection is about 300 games huge, maybe I can tell you something you NOT know (I don't think so but... who knows). :)

thegaygamer.com said...

Yeah, I'm excited about the Wii U, too. It'll be interesting to see what Nintendo, especially, has in store for folks in 2013. That said, Sony and MS will be showing their stuff next year, too. Crazy!

Oh, I'll certainly be asking folks--you included--for advice regarding PS3 games when I finally get one, don't you worry! Also, I'm sure you could point out some games I don't yet know about. Just look at my sort-of-cluelessness when it comes to the Vita :)

Lizzi said...

Oh I've seen some strange PS3 offers lately! Like: PS3 with 4 great games but only 12GB memory???? WTF? But good price, only 200€. So please be careful! At first I thought it was just a typing error... Who would buy a PS3 with only 12GB internal memory? Weird...

Tom Badguy said...

Word...?

lmao

thegaygamer.com said...

I'll be careful, no worries! Thanks for keeping an eye out for me, though :)

thegaygamer.com said...

Yes, that was the reaction I was hoping for :P

I'm going to throw in another Yo to the mix.

I'll admit to not being a regular reader, but I happened upon your blog again since it's the #1 source for Mad Panic Coaster information (which is a game that has always been in the back of my mind since seeing its awesome manual here), and I decided to read your full blog to see what other bizarre games you happened upon. I love you on The Nichiest Podcast, so keep being cool.

Cameron Colwell said...

Woo! I would absolutely love to win it! :D

thegaygamer.com said...

Hey there, er, *. How do you pronounce that, anyway??

Seriously, though, I never said that folks who want in on this giveaway have to be regular readers. So, don't feel bad about that at all!

I love that you found my blog because of my Mad Panic Coaster posts, by the way. What a strangely, weirdly fascinating game. Although it's the definition of frustrating, I still like it and I'm glad I own it :)

Have you come across any other games via this blog that pique your interest?

Look forward to a slew of posts in December about some strange and also not-so-strange imports, BTW.

Finally, thanks for the comment about Nichiest! I've long been terrified that I come off as a huge gay dweeb (whatever that means), so it's nice to hear that someone's enjoying my contributions :)

thegaygamer.com said...

Well, Cameron, you're as likely as anyone, so keep your fingers crossed :)

I've always chosen to make my Twitter account locked down and private, hence the asterisky name, but I figured it would be a quick way to log in. I'm also lunch on NeoGAF, which is significantly easier to pronounce.

I got so close to buying it on eBay but it was $30 or so, which made it a bit more than I wanted to pay, considering it seemed really difficult, so I let the auction go. It's been three months or so since then, and I haven't seen it up for sale and I wish I bit the bullet. :{

Not to just gush about the nice things you own, but the Game Gear (?) game titled The Berlin Wall seemed similarly bizarre, since if I remember correctly, your writeup didn't mention any actual historical context within the game. It struck me as a completely off-the-wall title for what I believe was just a puzzle game.

And coming off as a huge gay dweeb is good. There aren't enough of us!

thegaygamer.com said...

Hmmm, now I'm going to have to make a point of looking for someone with the username 'lunch' on NeoGAF :)

RE: Mad Panic Coaster -- yeah, it doesn't show up on eBay all that much, does it? Not that I've looked recently, but when I WAS looking ... hoo boy, it didn't show up often enough for my liking.

Speaking of rare eBay sightings: That's why I jumped on the copies of The Berlin Wall and Magical Puzzle Popils I own. I'd been looking for both FOR AGES, so when they appeared, I was determined to buy them no matter what they cost :)

Also, a few other games I now own I had to give up on finding copies via eBay. Instead, I bought them from jap-sai.com, which always seems to be up for hunting down the weird games I'm interested in -- for a price, of course.

Going back to The Berlin Wall: As far as I know, the game's story doesn't connect to the actual Berlin wall. That said, I can't read Japanese, so that may be covered in the manual or in the game's rather brief intro?

apricotsushi said...

Ooooh that certainly makes sense, but is a bit sneaky, eh? ;) Thanks for filling me in

apricotsushi said...

Oh yes, do enter me in the contest :)

apricotsushi said...

Really? I have quite a few friends here that have Vitas, but they're probably more "hardcore" than most gamers. I just love the screen on the Vita!
