Not-so-shocking newsflash: Final Fantasy Type-0 will be released 'overseas'

According to various sources (here's one, and here's another), the most recent of Square Enix's "Ultimania" guides confirms that Final Fantasy Type-0 will be released overseas.

Unfortunately, no one seems to know exactly what "overseas" means. (Will it be released in both Europe and North America, or will it be released in just one of those regions?) Also unknown at the moment: When and in what format the localized version(s) will be released.

I'm guessing that if this news is true and the game is indeed being localized, it will see the light of day in North America, at the very least. So, that's not much of a worry for me. I'm also not all that worried about when it's released, as I'll probably pick it up whether it's released early or late in the year.

What I am worried about: In what formats will the game be released? I have a feeling a UMD release is the least likely to happen, which is unfortunate as that's the format I'd prefer. (I mean, just look at the game's box art, right.) A PSN release is a much better possibility, and I wouldn't turn my nose up at it unless it was too pricey.

The only way I won't be adding Final Fantasy Type-0 to my collection shortly after it's released (assuming that even happens) is if the brass at Square Enix somehow make the bone-headed decision to release the game only for Vita. They wouldn't do something so dumb, though, would they?

My thoughts are the same as yours on this issue, Bryan. Definitely hoping for a UMD release, this is a Final Fantasy game after all! A hard copy release would allow them to come up with some sort of limited edtiion or preorder bonus incentive, as well.

If it ends up being UMD in Europe and PSN release in NA, I might look into importing it. I'm almost positive the game would get released in both EU and NA, regardless.

Vita-only would be shooting themselves in the foot, the install base would be far too small! As much as I want to play this game, there's no way I'd pick up a Vita just to play it, and I don't think I'm alone on the matter. So here's hoping this third option doesn't happen.

Hey there, Kamiwoo! Yeah, I'm not going to lie, I'll be bummed if it isn't released on UMD in NA. If it's released on UMD only in Europe, though, I'd definitely think of picking it up that way. Although I'm fine with downloading smaller games, I'd much rather buy physical versions of full-fledged ones.

Also, I'm with you in saying there's no way I'm going to buy a Vita to play this game. I may in fact get a Vita at some point, but it likely won't be for a year or two, and it certainly wouldn't just be for one game. I can't imagine SE would do something as stupid as releasing the game for Vita only, though...

Yes, there better be a UMD hard copy! I have refused to purchase certain games which are download only....I love me something I can touch! RAWR!

Hey there, Famicom Freak. Yeah, I'm the same way -- if at all possible, I want to buy a physical, boxed game. That's especially true when a game has box art as beautiful as this one.

Hm. I've never even HEARD of this one...

Really, Justin? It's an offshoot of the main series. It looks pretty cool to me, and reviews for it seem to be pretty good. PSP-only, of course, although who knows, maybe SE will bring it to other platforms eventually.
