So, I just pre-ordered Grand Knights History

I was on the fence about this Vanillaware-developed, Xseed Games-published, PSP-based RPG (yes, even after begging North American publishers to bring it to our shores) ... until I watched the following gameplay video the other day:

As soon as I saw the curved, globe-like backdrop and the beautiful, Princess Crown-ish (or maybe I should say Muramasa-esque?) characters in motion, I knew I had to pre-order this game--which is set to hit North American store shelves on Feb. 21--and pronto. (If you'd also like to pre-order a copy of Grand Knights History, you can do so here.)

I'm also on the verge of pre-ordering another PSP game, Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom, by the way. And Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time. And Gungnir.

Anyone who can talk me out of picking up any or all of the above-mentioned releases will earn my (and my bank account's) undying love and appreciation.

Never heard of Hakuoki before, so I looked it up. I got excited when I read "male love interests", but then my heart sank when I saw the words "visual novel".

But yeah, I'll probably have all of these by the end of the year, cuz I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff.

I just hope I'll have all the money for these games!

There's a certain game on your list that I am actually currently playing *wink nudge* and I have to say I'm really happy with it so far.

I won't push you to preorder because honestly I don't usually preorder myself! I'm surprised you sprung for Grand Knights History, but I think it's going to be a great pick :D

If I had to pick Growlanser or Gungnir, I'd go for Growlanser because I think the gameplay is more my style, but I have to say I really hate the look of the illustrations!

Warp: Yeah, I'm a bit worried about it being a visual novel, too, to tell you the truth. Of course, I've never played a visual novel, so maybe I'll really like it? Argh, this is going to be a tough one...

Me, too, Retr0gamer. Me, too! I'm guessing this means you're interested in all three of them, whether or not you can afford them?

Are you playing Hakuoki right now, Anne? If so, consider me jealous!

You bought the Japanese version of Grand Knights History, didn't you? If so, what do you think about it thus far -- assuming you've played a bit of it?

As for Gungnir VS. Growlanser: I'm actually thinking I'll go for Gungnir at this point, as its gameplay definitely seems more my style. I also really like the art style. Who knows, though, maybe I'll buy both eventually :P

Yes interested in them all but there's also Last Story and Pandora's Tower and trying to finish off my DS collection! :)

I completely missed this game. I think it was announced at the same time as Dragon's Crown so I thought it was the same game :P

Looks great!

Ah, I hear you, Retr0gamer! Not sure I'm going to get either Last Story or Pandora's Tower myself, but I'm definitely trying to finish off my DS collection, too. The only problem: There are literally too many great titles for the damn thing :)

What are some of the DS games you're still looking to acquire, if you don't mind me asking?

Bryan Ochalla said...

I can understand that, Darwin. I have a feeling a LOT of people completely missed this game's announcement -- and I have a feeling a lot will miss its release, too. Oh, well, at least I'll have my copy. Absolutely can't wait to give it a go :)

Can I just say that the thing about this video that I love the most is the Chrono Trigger-esque combined attack?! Any game that uses that system is a winner in my book.

Bryan Ochalla said...

Ah, yes, Justin, I love the combined attack, too. And the art style. Swoon :)

Ah, just wanted to let you know that I contacted XSeed PR about Grand Knight's History's release date, and they have not yet announced one, so I wouldn't take that Feb 21st date to be absolute.

I am playing Hakuoki, actually ;) I was surprised they sent out review codes so early!

As for Grand Knights History, I purposefully put it on the back burner because I knew the English release was coming. So no, I haven't tried it! I really ought to just check it out, at the very least.

You're definitely right about Gungir's art style – it's way more appealing than Growlanser, in my opinion.

Are you joking, Anne? If not, that has me a bit worried.

Amazon is the one listing Feb. 21 as the release date, so I just assumed that was the release date. (Yes, even after my mom warned me not to assume anything.)

I wondered, though, while writing up this post yesterday if something was up with the release, as it seemed weird to me that it still doesn't have final box art. You don't suppose they've decided against releasing it here, do you??

As for Hakuoki: I'm jealous! Can't wait to read your thoughts about it. It definitely looks interesting -- I just don't know if it's something I'll enjoy or not...

I'm thinking about picking up Hakuoki too at the very least for support. For some reason at first I thought this was a shounen ai sating sim! Oops! lol But still XSeed is pretty awesome huh? Plus, I can't pass up the chance to date the Shingengumi!! lol

I love Vanillaware! I'm really looking forward to Dragon's Crown! Grand Knhights History is looking really nice too! So many games! /sob #firstworldproblems lol

I've a list of about 30 DS games that I keep track of in my backloggery wishlist. I was doing great since I was able to find a lot of them for cheap but I've gotten to the point were most of them are hard to find or Nintendo published which manes they don't drop in price at all. It would be much better if I could find a job :)

Bryan Ochalla said...

Hey there, Kaze! Yes, both Aksys and Xseed are pretty awesome, in my opinion, and well worth supporting.

Here's hoping Grand Knights History gets a firm release date soon.

As for Dragon's Crown: I like the looks of that one, too, although maybe not as much as Grand Knights History, honestly.

Bryan Ochalla said...

I hear ya, Retr0gamer. It's amazing how well Nintendo-published games (DS or otherwise) hold their value. I have a few Nintendo-made DS and Wii games on my wish list that will be staying there for a while because the price just refuses to drop. Oh, well.

Anyway, I hope you find a job soon. Best of luck to you in that area!
