Introducing: The Nichiest Podcast Ever!

So, I have a bit of a surprise for you today. I actually considering bringing it up a month or so ago when it first came to light, but I decided against doing so because I didn't want to jinx anything. Anyway, what's the surprise, you ask? Well, it's that I recently--as in, just a few, short days ago--participated in a new podcast that I very much hope will become a regular (or at least regular-ish) gig.

This brand-spanking new podcast is called, as I'm guessing you've picked up by now (assuming you read the header above), "The Nichiest Podcast Ever." Shockingly, our first show focuses on all kinds of niche-y game-related stuff--like some of the smaller titles that were overshadowed during E3 2012 and a few recent, worthwhile releases that we feel have been overlooked by the masses.

We also spend a bit of time chatting about the 3DS XL and the Wii U, and have a lot of fun with a segment called "The Nichiest of Them All," during which we try to stump each other about some of the lesser-known games we've played throughout our lives.

As for who "we" are: Well, you know enough about me, I'm sure. (Or at least I hope you do by now.) You should know a bit about one of my, er, podcast costars--blogger, translator and yaoi enthusiast Anne Lee, otherwise known as apricotsushi--too, since she's not only left a number of comments here over the last few months and years but authored a post on this here blog, too.

My other costar--and, really, let's call a spade a spade and admit that this person is the star of this particular production--is writer and podcaster extraordinaire shidoshi. (You may recognize that name from seeing it in the pages of EGM, GameFan and Play magazines or from hearing it in WARNING! A Huge Podcast.)

That's all well and good, but what you really want to know is how can you listen to the first installment of "The Nichiest Podcast Ever," right? Don't worry, I'm getting to it. In fact, I'll get to it right now. If you're obsessed with getting your podcasts from iTunes, go here. (Note: should this podcast stand the test of time, it'll eventually get its own iTunes page.) Another option is to go to radio.morningproject.com and either listen to it or download it there.

Should you actually check out "The Nichiest Podcast Ever," would you be so kind as to let Anne, shidoshi and I what you think of it? Feel free to do so in the comments section here or on Twitter (@apricotsushi, @pikoeri or @thegaygamer).

Hoo boy. I'm starting to think I'm going to need to get rid of that post that talks about my 3DS friend code. No offense, CRAZY -- if you're a real person, of course -- but I really only want to add people to my 3DS who I know at least a little bit. So, come back once in a while, comment every now and then, let me get to know you, and *then* we can chat about adding you as a friend.

I'll add this one to my podcast list, I really like WAHP so hopefully this one is as good. I really like the YMCK-esque banner :)

Thanks, Retr0gamer! WAHP's shidoshi completely led the charge on this podcast, so rest assured this one is good too (or it will be after we've done a few of them and gotten the kinks out of things). Shidoshi also made the banner. Can you say talented??

Enjoyed the show! It's funny, you covered a lot of the same territory that we did on my Gayme Bar episode. Not only the niche games at E3 (or lack thereof), but also Shidoshi even covered the same "what are you playing" that I did -- Monster World IV. I miss Warning A Huge Podcast, so it was nice to hear Shidoshi again. The stump game was a fun idea too. My only suggestion, is that I wish you and Apricot brought more material to the table, especially for the E3 discussion. It seemed like Shidoshi ran the whole show, which is fine, but also he had a lot of things he wanted to talk about, and you and Apricot just kinda reacted mostly. So anyway, saying I want to hear more from you is actually a good thing, right? Keep at it, I think this is worth pursuing.

Hey there, warp! Thanks for giving it a listen -- and for sharing your thoughts, too. Especially for sharing your thoughts, actually. I definitely think it's a good thing that you'd like to hear more of myself and Anne. I don't think that will be a problem in the future, by the way -- should we actually record more shows. Neither Anne nor I have participated in many podcasts before now, and I think both of us were just a little bit unsure of ourselves in this one. (I shouldn't speak for Anne, of course; I'm just guessing she was in the same boat I was.) So, we really followed shidoshi's lead for much of this episode/show. As we do more shows, we'll come into our own more, I think. That said, I'm so glad shidoshi was there to lead the way for us, as she's so experienced with this sort of thing and very much a natural at it. Hopefully some of that will rub off on both Anne and I as we compile more shows in the coming months :)

I really enjoyed it. Even though it was by no means a short podcast, shidoshi kept things running smoothly and my interest never flagged. When I saw your post announcing it, my eyes went to the banner first and for a mili-second, I read it as "The Nicest Podcast Ever." Which could also apply; hearing three pleasant people talking about things they love. I hope you'll do more - I will definitely listen if you do.

Hello David! Thank you for checking it out and for sharing your thoughts. I'm especially glad you found us pleasant, as that's definitely a word I'd use to describe the three of us. Anyway, I hope we'll do more as well. Rest assured I'll let you (and everyone else here) know if and when that happens!

Was interesting to hear you guys :)
Though I do think it is quite long LOL :D

And yeah, the more I hear and see on 3DS XL, the more I'm wanting one! LOL (I'm likely to get the the Red/Black version)

Igor: Really? Do you think it was too long? Wasn't only about an hour or so? I honestly can't remember. Anyway, let me/us know if you think it's too long and we'll consider making them shorter in the future. It definitely was shorter than the other podcasts I've been a part of, I can tell you that!

As for the 3DS XL: Yeah, I think it's kind of creeping up on a lot of people at the moment. It'll be very interesting to see what other colors are released later this year and early next year...

Eh it's probably just me! I'm not a big podcast person (I only listened to this cos you're in it LOL...I hope that doesn't make me sound stalker-ish?)
It was 1hr 43min and 31seconds :)
I guess I found my mind was wandering around at times and I was losing bits of the conversation hehe :)

Bryan Ochalla said...

Ah! I didn't realize it was so long. Strange, as I was sure it only took us just over an hour to record it. Anyway, here's hoping the next one is a bit shorter. Honestly, I like the idea of podcasts being an hour or less -- longer than that and I'm really not interested in listening to them myself.

As for you listening only because I was in it: Nah, I don't consider that stalker-ish :)

Viewtiful_Justin said...

FINALLY gave it a listen. You and Anne were great! I could listen to you guys talk about games all day long. I'd love to hear another episode!

Bryan Ochalla said...

Oh, thanks for saying that, Justin :) I'm so glad you liked it!

We're definitely planning on doing more, BTW. Not sure when the next one will be, but I hope it'll be soon.

Our initial idea was to do them monthly -- assuming the first one went well.
