Goin' for the gold (nunchuck)

Did anyone else recently drop a whopping 900 Club Nintendo coins to get one of these bad boys?

Mine hasn't arrived on my doorstep yet, although a recent e-mail from Nintendo of America assures it's on its way.

Although I'm eager to rip it open and hold it in my hands (or at least stare at it longingly), I'm no longer as eager as I was when I first placed my order. That's because I just watched the rather awkward unboxing video below, which reveals that Nintendo of America cheaped out (once again) and shipped these beauties in plain, plastic bags--you know, as opposed to nice, branded boxes, like the ones that were used in Japan.

Even before I came to this disappointing discovery, though, I was a bit unsure as to why I decided to "waste" 900 Club Nintendo points on this particular prize--mainly because I don't have a gold Wii remote with which to pair it. Maybe this will spur me to pick one up along with a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword?

Bah, I'm kicking myself because I JUST spend 800 coins on the Club Nintendo hanafuda cards like the week before the gold nunchuk was available. =[

I've wanted the cards for awhile and figured Nintendo wasn't going to toss any cool Club Nintendo swag our way. I actually need a 2nd nunchuk too! Although, I don't have a gold wiimote either! lol

Oh, that's too bad :( And it sounds like the gold nunchucks are all gone now, too. I may wind up selling my gold nunchuck, though, so if that happens I'll let you know. (Not assuming you'd be interested in such a transaction, of course, but I brought it up just in case.)

Awww no worries! I'm happy that you got one! ^^ You should keep it! I'm sure it'll go up in value! They're already going for like $50-90 on ebay. Although I guess that could fund some PC Engine goodness! lol

I just noticed that the Hanafuda cards are actually gone now too so I feel better about using my coins on them a few weeks ago!

We'll see if I keep it or not. Really, the only way I can see myself doing so is if I get a gold Wii remote to go with it. Otherwise, I'd rather sell it and fund a Famicom/PC Engine purchase, as you said :)

Anyway, yes, the hanafuda cards are gone, too. Hopefully they'll put them back up some day, but I'm going to doubt it at the moment (given NOA's track record regarding such things).

This is better than most club items. Most of them are neat but worth too many points

I'm sorry? You didn't get the gold Wiimote with Skyward Sword? Or did you never get Skyward Sword? Bryan! Get it!

Bryan Ochalla said...

Adam: Oh, yes, of course you're correct. Most of the stuff they offer isn't worth spending the points, IMO. Thankfully, every once in a while they offer up something like this, or the G&W games, that eats up a good chunk of my points :)

Justin: I never got Skyward Sword, period. I know, shameful. I'm just not feelin' Zelda these days. Maybe I'll pick it up sometime next year...

Well since I happen to have that lovely golden Zelda Wiimote, you could just send your nunchuck my way ;) Actually we had the golden nunchuck here on the Australian Nintendo Club store for a while, but I didn't have enough stars at that point.

Also, that video is SUPER awkward

Well, I just realized I had a stack of Nintendo points that were never going to get near the desired tally for the SFC Classic Controller, so this'll do quite nicely, and these things expire too, apparently. So, Thanking you for the point in a worthy direction.

I don't actually have a gold Wiimote, but I'm sure it'll go nicely with this:

And for an entirely unsolicited update:

Bollocks! It's not available on the European Stars Catalogue.

Bryan Ochalla said...

Oh, sure, Anne, rub it in!

I'm guessing the gold remote that appeared in your CN store required a lot of coins/points, too?

Oh, and, YES, the video is super awkward. I especially like the fumbling with the box at the beginning :P

Bryan Ochalla said...

Oh, Jyr, I'm sorry. I was just going to ask you if you were going to get it from the Japanese store or something, because I hadn't heard that it was available yet in the Euro store. Hopefully it will be soon?

Bryan Ochalla said...

BTW, Jyr: Does this mean you guys (in Europe) got the SNES/SF Classic Controller in your Club Nintendo shop? If so, well, consider ME jealous! I'd prefer to have that, honestly, than the gold nunchuck.

Gerard said...

Yup, it's sitting there at 7000 points. Initially, I recall vaguely, it was the standard SFC-style with throwback packaging, but it's been replaced by a PAL SNES-pad and matching box.

Bryan Ochalla said...

Wow, I'm guessing you guys get more points per game and system than we do? After all, our gold nunchuck, for instance, was *just* 900 coins -- which is more than most people have at any point in time. Anyway, it's interesting that NOE replaced your SF/SNES controller over time. Were the first ones Japanese leftovers?

Likely, though Play-Asia procured a fair amount for general sale (at a hefty price), it's hard to imagine many being left over.

Just seeing what you mentioned, a Game & Watch ball costs 1200 on the US site, whilst it goes 7500 Stars of the PAL one. Australia's must be different again, as the SFC/SNES pad went for 3000 when it was listed there.

It's interesting that not only do the points awarded for each purchase differ by region, but so do the prizes. Too bad Nintendo doesn't make all regions' Club Nintendos be like Japan's :(

Oh I got this nunchuck!
I bought it a while ago from a japanese ebay-seller.
Because I also bought the wii-remote-edition of Zelda Skyward Sword I also got the golden remote.
The japanese nunchuck works perfectly with the european remote!
But it was kinda expensive :(
60€ only for the nunchuck!
That's what I payed for the Skyward Sword-remote-editon...
I just had to buy a golden nunchuk for this golden remote.
Can't think about using a nunchuck in a different colour with this beauty. xD
In the german Nintendo Club you can only get some suuuper lame merchandiseing.
Yours Melody :)

I forgot to tell you:
There's no way that you can buy a golden nunchuck from the japanese Nintendo Club outside from Japan.
I tried...
That's why I bought it so super expensive on ebay.
In Germany we get something like 200 points for a DS-game, 350 pts. for a Wii-game and 1000-2000 for a console.
So no... we don't get more points (I think?).
Whe had the golden Link-statue in the shop for a while.
But it was so expensive that nobody can afford it.
15000 points!!!
The Wii-SNES-controller is still available ;-)
Maybe we can make a good deal some day xD
Yours Melody

Hello again, Melody!

Wow, seems like you paid a bundle for your Japanese gold nunchuck! I can understand it, though, especially if you own a gold Wii Remote and if you like Zelda games :)

Sorry to hear you guys only get lame rewards as part of your Club Nintendo program :(

Oh, and I can't believe the Euro CN 'shop' has a prize in it that goes for 15,000 coins. It would take me years to get that many coins! Yikes!!
