Attention Vita owners: Dokuro is now available for purchase via PSN

OK, so most of you probably don't own a Vita. And if you do, you likely already know that GungHo's 150-level puzzler-platformer Dokuro is hitting PSN today. Just in case any of you weren't aware of that fact, though, I thought I'd remind you.

Oh, and I also should remind you that this "two-dimensional Boxxle and ICO mixture with chalk graphics" title (according to NeoGAF user deimian86) will cost you just $19.99.

Here's a (Japanese) gameplay video of Dokuro--which is Japanese for "skull," basically--for those of you who've yet to see it in action:

If you just can't get enough of Dokuro, you may want to watch this video, too, which takes viewers through the game's Japanese demo. (Warning: The guy playing said demo is very annoying.)

Personally, if I owned a Vita I'd probably pick up the Japanese retail release of Dokuro, as I'm pretty fond of its box art, rather than the North American PSN version, but I'm weird like that.

Hooray! I'm sad when a cool game comes out on PSN for Vita, but not for the console.

I've read mixed reviews, but I agree if I had a Vita I'd totally buy this. Because it'd be either this or re-buying old games that I already own on other consoles.

Well, Justin, I wonder if we'll eventually see more games that can be played on both the PS3 and the Vita in the near-ish future -- what with the Vita completely tanking at retail and all?

Bryan Ochalla said...

Really, warp? I haven't read anything but positive reviews so far. Of course, I haven't exactly been digging for them, so it's pretty likely I've missed some.

Anyway, how did I not know that you own a Vita? Or is my mind just playing tricks on me again? :P

Notice I said "if I had a Vita". I do not see a compelling reason to own one as of yet.

1up calls it "dull"

Actually I think that's a reader review, so I guess it doesn't really count, but there aren't a lot of reviews to go off of yet.

Bryan Ochalla said...

Oh, ha ha, yes, you did say "if" you had a Vita. Sorry 'bout that :)

Bryan Ochalla said...

Oh, no, I think reader reviews count. I just haven't seen any myself. Granted, I've mostly stuck to forums like NeoGAF, where people who've played the Japanese version have commented on it. I haven't read any "official" reviews yet.

Also, I don't see any really compelling reasons to own a Vita yet either. There are a few nice games out for it that I'd probably pick up if I owned one, but that's about it. So, if I ever buy one, it'll probably be down the road quite a bit...

That looks neat. I may have to give it a try when I get tired of Pokemon White 2. I like my Vita, but it's going to be gathering dust until I beat the Elite Four.

Bryan Ochalla said...

Well, I'm glad I could help sell you on this game, Terry! Not like I've played it myself, of course, but it certainly looks like a fun one to me :)

What games do you currently have for your Vita, if you don't mind me asking?

Viewtiful_Justin said...

It seems like a stupid idea, though, for them to release Vita exclusive games on the PS3. If no one is buying a Vita, they'd be smarter to release Vita exclusives that would sell the system, you know? Just from a business standpoint, that would make more sense.

Of course, that would leave me without several games that I love.

BTW, I bought Retro City Rampage today. Frantic, overwhelming, and nostalgia-overloaded. My three word review.

Bryan Ochalla said...

Oh, I agree, Justin. Developers really are caught between the proverbial rock and a hard place in this situation, aren't they?

As for Retro City Rampage: So, does this mean you're enjoying it, or not? I was really interested in it back when it was announced, but I've cooled on it since then. Do you think the finished product is something I'd enjoy?

Well I brought a Vita last February and now this month I clean all the dust since October is Vita month. You know October promotion when you earn $100 on PSN, $20 will return on November

I've been playing the Retro City Rampage demo on PS3, and it's pretty crazy. I guess basically it's an NES GTA, but the sense of humor and old-school references are what makes it special. I've heard it gets incredibly frustrating at some point, but I haven't seen that yet. I think it's worth your time to try out the demo on your 360.

Bryan Ochalla said...

Ah, yes, I've heard of that promotion, Ivan. So which Vita games will you be buying?

Bryan Ochalla said...

warp: Oh, I'll definitely try the demo. Hopefully I'll like it, as I really liked the looks of it back when it was announced :)

Hey there!
I've heard of this game before and it's already on my "to-buy-list".
Too sad there are so few good games for the vita. The handheld is so capable, way more than the 3DS but still no good games (except Dynasty Warriors Next, Touch my Katamari, Uncharted Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush and New Little Kings Story).
I only own "Touch my Katamari" for my Vita so I'm like never using it.
I think I will buy Dokuro as soon as possible...

Bryan Ochalla said...

Ah, I always forget that you have a Vita, Melody! You should talk with Anne, who often comments here as "apricotsushi" (and has a blog here: http://chicpixel.blogspot.com/).

She also has a Vita and even has Touch My Katamari, I think.

Anyway, I hope you do buy Dokuro at some point -- and then tell me what you think of it! I'm certainly curious as to whether or not it's as enjoyable as it seems to be :)

Melody (Lizzi) said...

I already know Anne (following her on blogger and twitter) and have talked with her a bit. She writes posts about games, animes and merchandisig I'm very interested in xD
I'll ask her if she has some vita games which she wold recommend to me.

Bryan Ochalla said...

Ah, I should have known that you were following her already. Great :)

I'm sure she'll have some recommendations for you, by the way!

Ah, yes, I've heard of that promotion, Ivan. So which Vita games will you be buying?
-------------------------------------
These are the list that I will buy for my Vita

Dokuro - $19.99
SFvT - $39.99
Ragnarok Odyssey - $39.99

That will make $100 so the $20 will return this November. ;*

Bryan Ochalla said...

Ah, sounds good, Ivan! I hope you enjoy all three of them -- and whatever game you buy with that extra $20 :)

Unknown said...

Thank you Bryan I will save this $20 for November what ever it might be I hope it serves me well

Bryan Ochalla said...

Ha ha! Me, too, Ivan :)

Check this one Bryan

I saw an incomplete wiki of Dokuro. We can gradually finish this one. I'd like to post a video walk-through per stage on it.

That would be great, Ivan! Should you make and post any walkthroughs of the game, let me know, OK?
