And once again I'm hoping the Animal Crossing-branded 3DS XL is brought to North America

Informal poll: who believes the awesome, Animal Crossing-branded 3DS XL (a few photos of it can be seen here and here) that was released in Japan late last year will see the light of day in Europe or North America in 2013?

Personally, I'm with the non-believers in this case. My main reason: if memory serves, Nintendo has released just two limited edition 3DS models outside of Japan so far (those being the Pikachu-themed XL that recently landed in Europe and the black-and-gold one that commemorated the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda in 2011)--although a third will hit the streets alongside Fire Emblem: Awakening's launch.

Still, that's a pretty bad track record when you consider how many special edition 3DS systems have found their way onto Japanese store shelves over the last few years.

Anyway, I hope I'm wrong, as this particular 3DS XL looks awesome in every way.

Speaking of which, the writing of this post was prompted by the video that can be seen above (and here).

I have no idea what the effervescent guy who serves as its star is saying, of course, but I think his enthusiasm for his new acquisition comes through loud and clear.

I remember reading an article awhile back that says Japan is very strict about the concept of a Limited Edition, where they can't pump one out and, if it proves popular, decide to make more and thus decrease the value of the original to the customers who bought them.

It seems like they're loosening up with some of the more recent editions, so maybe they've worked out the legal mumbo-jumbo to make it happen.

I think the Animal Crossing design looks like bland grandma kitchen wallpaper and making a skin through Decal Girl would seem the better option, but you may still get your chance to own one. :)

That's interesting if true, Zaphod65. I can't speak to past limited edition 3DSes, but it sure seems like the Animal Crossing one has been available in far higher numbers than previous LEs. Maybe that's evidence that what you say here is true?

As for thinking the AC 3DS is boring: well, that's certainly your right! For me, it's partially about it being an AC-themed 3DS and partially about liking the design itself, which is very Louis Vuitton (and probably purposefully so).

I completely understand loving the AC theme. My first DS had an Animal Crossing skin that was row after row of characters from the game. (I see Amazon is still selling that skin for $3. Heh.).

Sounds cute! I usually can't be bothered with skins, though. I want the real thing. Gah!

Oh Bryan I really hope you're wrong with your presentiment. I would always give my Pikachu 3DS XL or my Zelda 3DS away for one os those super cute AC-Editions! Awww I understand his enthusiasm... I guess if I was him I would act the same way. I can't wait for the Animel Crossing New Leaf eu-release-announcement anymore :(

I hope I'm wrong, too, Lizzi! I don't know if it'll make you feel any better, but you Europeans seem to have a better shot at this 3DS than we North Americans do, given the track records of Nintendo of Europe and America, respectively.

Regardless, all of us should get New Leaf "soon," I would think. And by soon I mean sometime between April and June :|

Argh. If that thing was region free I'd fight a dinosaur to get it. Too damn cute.
