'Finding an adventure is easy'

Is it odd to have nostalgic feelings for a game you didn't actually play early in life?

If so, I'm odd, because I have all sorts of nostalgic feelings for Nintendo's EarthBound--a game I didn't experience (for the first time) until a few years after it was released in my neck of the woods.

Even odder: I've never finished the game, despite giving it my best on two occasions (including the above-mentioned one).

Anyway, all of that is brought up to add a little "color" to a post that could otherwise be boiled down to "I really like this EarthBound-inspired comic."

And what a wonderful comic it is, right?

It was produced by artist Zac Gorman, who recently shared on his site, Magical Game Time, that he's been "replaying EarthBound since its rerelease on the Virtual Console, so it’s been on my mind a lot."

Another of Zac's recent EarthBound comics is even more fabulous than this one, I have to say. Check it out here, if you have the interest.

Both comics are masterpieces. There are feelings buried in me that really only Earthbound can successfully dredge every time I see it, play it, or read something like this. He nails it out of the park every time.

I think part of the reason I have such nostalgic feelings for this game despite not playing it when it was first released, etc., is that I obsessedly read all of the articles about it that were published in the gaming mags of the day. Plus, it's just a game that makes you feel like a kind again, isn't it? It makes you feel like you're going on an adventure, exploring the unknown, all that jazz. Sigh, I really need to get back to it...

Well this comic definitely resonates with me, even though I've only played a few hours of EarthBound! It's really sweet and poignant, even without understanding the EarthBound reference, I think, which is what makes it extra special.

I agree, Anne. I don't think you really need to have played EarthBound to "get" this comic, as it really speaks to most of the gaming population--especially those who have been around for a while :)

That comic is great! The game that gave me a nostalgic feeling was playing Xenogears on the Playstation One for the first time. I remember seeing a lot of magazine ads of the game and even seen some gameplay footage of the game, but I never got the game at that time when it was released. Gave me a feeling like I have played it before when in fact I haven't.

That's interesting, Mimi! Would you believe I own a copy of Xenogears, but I've yet to play it? Actually, I don't even think I've opened it yet. Sad. I'll get to it eventually, though. I'm guessing you like the game?
