(Gaming) sisters doin' it for themselves

I've said this before, and I'm going to say it again: I want another Super Princess Peach game, damn it!

I'd want said sequel to fix some of the problems I had with the original, of course, but even if this new title retained the first one's issues--too easy by far, and with a some-call-it-sexist gameplay hook--I'd still probably pick up a copy (especially if it were released for the 3DS).

Anyway, I bring up all of that because the following illustration, produced by artist Glen Brogan, reminds me of that much-maligned platformer--or maybe I should say it makes me ponder some of the improvements I'd like to see in its make-believe follow-up.

Brogan worked up the illustration for the recently opened 3NES Show at Brooklyn's Bottleneck Gallery (in runs through Sept. 22), by the way. Two others were produced along with it: one of which stars Samus Aran and Mother Brain and one of which stars Zelda and Ganon. (Both of them can be seen at albinoraven7.blogspot.com).

"My thoughts going into these pieces were that I wanted to stick closely to the original NES games, as opposed to branching out into subsequent games," Brogan says, "and I wanted to base them around the female characters in each game."

I'd say he did a pretty bang-up job in both regards, wouldn't you?

Nintendo should make 2015 the year of Princess Peach with a Super Princess Peach squeal, Super Peach 3D World DLC, and maybe
Mario and Luigi RPG 5 were the Mario bros. team up with Peach and Daisy.

As for a Super Princess Peach squeal I'd like to see Daisy added in. Maybe her powers could be sports based. They could also added in a co-op multi-player mode if Daisy was added in. I also want them to make the game more challenging than the 1st, I remember the 1st being really easy.

You ... you've never played Super Princess Peach, Justin? That amazes and surprises me!

As for whether it's worth $25 or not: hmmmm, I'm actually not sure! The only reason I'm hemming and hawing, by the way, is that the game is far too easy, and I'm worried you may beat it quickly and then feel pissed that you wasted your money.

Other than its simplicity, though, it's a great game--really nice graphics, some interesting gameplay hooks, etc.

I really wish we lived closer to each other. If we did, I'd lend it to you for a while so you could decide if it's worth $25 or not :)

Damn, why'd you have to say that, Sam? I'd KILL for 2014 or 2015 to be the Year of Peach! She so deserves to be the star of more games :(

And, yes, including Daisy in one or more of those games would be great, too.

Come on, Nintendo--make it happen!

Yeah, I just didn't really feel they added anything to the overall game. I'd be happy if it were just a rhythm game with cute characters. The leveling and abilities were okay, as it was neat to see how they effected your performance, but I didn't see the point of the items and equipment (there was equipment, right? maybe I imagined it)

I've never played it as I lack a 3DS, but making a game that embraces the series soundtrack is such a fantastic idea. I bet it was just an idea that snapped into one of their minds in a split second and they just went "YAAAAAAAAASSSSS THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN".

Btw Bryan, if you could create another game made out of the soundtrack of a franchise (not necessarily a video game one) what would it be? I'd go Pokemon :D

Hmmm, I actually liked the RPG elements myself. As for the items and equipment, I thought the point was pretty straightforward and easy to understand, from what I can remember. I mean, some items, when equipped, would raise various stats of a certain character, while others, like potions, could be used in battle. I'll admit it was kind of confusing at first, but I don't remember having a problem with it after that.

Hmmm, I don't know, Josef! Dragon Quest is an obvious answer for me, as is Mother/Earthbound. Oh, and the Saga series!

I'd totally be up for a Pokemon-based Theatrhythm-type game, too, by the way, although I'm actually not as knowledgable about that series as maybe I should be :)
