It's like Crypt of the NecroDancer was made with me in mind

I don't know about you, but a name like Crypt of the NecroDancer doesn't really pique my interest. Tell me said game is rhythm-based roguelike that sports a retro-tastic art style, though, and you've got my attention.

The question is: will the aforementioned title, which is being made by the folks at Brace Yourself Games for both Mac and Windows, wind up being as fun to play as it appears to be in the following trailer?

I'm a little skeptical, I have to admit, but I'm also intrigued enough that I'll likely take the Mac version for a spin shortly after it's released.

The only thing that could keep me from doing that is Crypt of the NecroDancer's $15 price tag--something I'd be far more willing to put up with if it were attached to a console or even handheld release.

That needs an eShop release. I'd be tempted to pick it up if I could play it on the go, but I don't do much PC gaming.

I'd take it on 3DS or Wii U, Terry--even though I don't yet own a Wii U. Heck, I'd take it on 360! My fear is that I'll pay for the Mac version and then barely play it, as I hate playing games on my computer. Sigh. We'll see...

Strong female protagonist?
Retro art style?
Roguelike gameplay?
Rhythm game?
This all sounds like it's adding up to be amazing! I have to put this on my wish list and check it out when it arrives! Hope there's a demo at some point...it all really comes down to how it plays in the end.

I agree, Justin. Sadly, I'm not entirely sure when it's supposed to be released--although the Penny Arcade post I linked to suggests some folks will gain early access to it late this year. Hopefully it'll be released to the rest of us shortly after? Anyway, here's hoping the final product is as amazing as early impressions have suggested it'll be...

It's SUPER fun!! I got to play it at PAX last weekend! :D (Also, hope things are well with you!)

Ah, you're the second person who's told me they played it at PAX, Marty! And that other person liked it, too. Gah, another reason to be sad about missing PAX (once again).

Anyway, all is well with me. Thanks for asking :) Hopefully all is well with you, too?

Wow, you're right about the name not sounding all that interesting, but gosh, it looks really neat! I'll definitely keep my eye out for it
