Screw the haters, I'm excited for both Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth (3DS) and Persona 4: Dancing All Night (Vita)

Would you believe that I completely forgot that the folks at Atlus were supposed to make an announcement related to the Persona series yesterday until I woke up, checked NeoGAF and saw the news that Persona 5 will be released for the PS3 sometime next winter?

Granted, that the company's main announcement would revolve around both Persona 5 and the PS3 enter "foregone conclusion" territory long ago, so that may have had something to do with it.

Anyway, note the placement of the word "main" before "announcement" in the sentence above. I worded things that way because, as you've probably already heard, before Atlus revealed Persona 5, it revealed two other Persona-related spin-off titles (in addition to finally sharing a summer release date for the PS3 release of Persona 4: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold, aka the sequel to 2012's Persona 4 Arena.)

One of those spin-off titles will be Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, an Etrian Odyssey-esque RPG starring chibi-fied characters pulled from Persona 3 and 4. Here's a teaser trailer for the game, which will hit Japanese store shelves (both actual and virtual) in June:

As surprising--and strange--as Persona Q's reveal was for most of the Interwebs, the following reveal was even more so.

Yes, the trailer above really is for a Persona-based rhythm game, called Persona 4: Dancing All Night, that's being made by the same folks (Dingo) who brought the world the Hatsune Miku PSP titles.

Oh, and it'll be released for the Vita--again, in Japan--next autumn.

I don't know about you, but I'll certainly be picking up some version of Persona Q next year. Should I add a Vita to my collection in 2014, I'll likely also buy a copy of Dancing All Night, as it looks and sounds far too wacky and wonderful to pass up if given the chance.

Are any of you planning to purchase any of the games mentioned throughout this post? If so, which ones--and why?

The big takeaway I had from the announcement is how badly I need to finish Persona 4 Golden. The game is so good, but I get distracted and go long stretches without playing it. I'm going to dive back into it after I finish A Link Between Worlds.

I would definitely buy Persona Q if it came to the U.S. I don't know how likely we are to get Dancing All Night, but I'd consider it.

Project Diva is a really fun game, so Dancing All Night should be good. I just bought Persona 3 and 4 last month. I should probably play those soon.

Ah, I've heard that a lot when it comes to P4G, Terry. Sounds like it's a pretty dense/long game, eh?

Also, yes, you're probably right about Dancing All Night being far less likely to leave Japan than Persona Q. Still, I hope both make it out in some form or fashion.

Yeah, hearing Dancing All Night is being made by the original Project Diva devs is very good news, IMO--despite the fact that I've yet to play a PD game :) I've heard great things about them, though!

It's not so much that it's dense as the Vita has to compete with the 3DS. I almost always take the 3DS when I leave the apartment so I can earn Play Coins and maybe a Street Pass tag or two. The Vita doesn't have a reason for me to be compulsive about having it with me even if I'm not playing a specific game. lol

Interesting! Still, I believe the game's supposed to be pretty long. Hopefully I'll find out for myself soon enough...

I don't get why some people are so upset about these spin-offs what with the 5th game being announced. Plus I doubt that they'll affect the development of 5.

As far getting one of these games I'd rather get them after playing Persona 4: Golden (or any form of the game for that matter). I already regret watching Persona 4:The Animation before playing the game especially since the anime felt rushed.

It's a long game. I just meant that's not why I haven't finished it. lol

I bought Project Diva F on a whim (I know next to nothing about Hatsune Miku) and I think the game is fantastic. If you like rhythm games, it's worth buying.

I'll be getting a copy of each game !
Persona being my favorite series, I just can't say no to more of it : all right, Atlus still isn't letting go of P3 and P4, but how is that surprising ? I mean, they must be their two most successful games !

First, PersonaQ may not sound very logical, but I can't wait to see the characters interact with each other !

Then, about P4D... It sounds way too fun ! Just look at Narukami dancing, I just- ... With the P4 cast, Shoji Meguro's music and a gameplay similar to Project Diva, how can this possibly be bad ? <3

Of course, we can't forget about Arena's sequel... Haha, now, Adachi joins in !

Last, but not least, what we were all waiting for... PERSONA 5 ! I'm so happy, so excited after seeing the teaser... So many possibilities, it looked quite dark, and... I can't wait to see the characters' designs, the first in game images, and of course, to find out about the story ! *___*

Right there with ya' bud. I'm planning to grab all of these. Persona 4 Golden absolutely hooked me and probably ranks as one of my favorite games ever. I thought Arena was a completely entertaining fighting game. Not a single of these announcements upset me - more time with these characters and the series is fine by me. My only concern is that by having so many projects going at once, will the teams be a bit thin and perhaps end quality compromised? I hope not, because I'm excited about them. :)

Hey there, Chalgyr! I understand your concerns, but I have a feeling all will be OK as they're all being made by different teams, aren't they? P5 by the Persona team, PQ made by the EO devs, P4D by the folks behind Miku and the Arena sequel by the same folks who make the first one? If so, I think things will be more than OK...

Chalgyr said...

Yeah, they are managed by different teams, but hopefully they are sharing some resources too - making sure they get things 'right'. I'm pretty excited overall. :)

Oh, I'm sure someone is overseeing everything. I can't imagine Atlus just letting other, non-Persona teams going nuts on the series without any oversight. Anyway, yes, I'm excited, too :)

Excuse my language, but fuck yeah!
Even though its not Persona 4 on 3DS, a Persona spin off is still great to have. And I like the art style too! I really hope it comes out here within a reasonable time frame (I just hope with Sega now owning Atlus it will mean a proper world wide release for their games, not the stupid crap 6-12+ months wait). I also hope PersonaQ has a good story, and is not simply a dungeon crawler like EO (in saying that, I'm likely to get the game anyway haha)
The dancing game is strangely compelling LOL I wanna dance with Kanji ;)

And P5 on PS3 woo! Means I don't have to worry about getting a PS4 to play it ;)

Yes, it's good news all around, I think, Igor. The big question will be if Dancing All Night will be released outside of Japan. I hope it will, but if not, there's always the import route, I guess...
