No kidding: I'm far more interested in Mighty Gunvolt than I am in either Azure Striker Gunvolt or Mighty No. 9

While most gamers were soiling themselves over the pair of Mega Man clones--Mighty No. 9 and Azure Striker Gunvolt--that were revealed late last year and earlier this year, respectively, my own reaction to these retro-tinged action-platformers was decidedly less dramatic.

In fact, although I think both Azure Striker Gunvolt (or is it just Gunvolt?) and Mighty No. 9 look like perfectly pleasant games, I'm currently not planning to pick up either of them once they're finally released.

Or maybe I should say I wasn't planning to pick up either of them until I read that the rather delicious-looking Mighty Gunvolt--an 8-bit-styled action-platformer that features characters and other elements of Azure Striker GunvoltMighty No. 9 and even Gal*Gun--will be given, free of charge, to all who purchase Azure Striker Gunvolt (which is set to hit the North American 3DS eShop on Aug. 29) before the end of November.

In the meantime, feel free to salivate while watching the video above, which shows the Japanese version of Mighty Gunvolt in action.

Looks like a neat game.

My thoughts, too, Will! Is this something you'd pick up?

You know what, it is something I would pick up.

We'll see if I pick it up. Thankfully, it looks as though Mighty Gunvolt will be sold separately at some point down the line.

I was already looking forward to Gunvolt (moreso than MN9, in fact) so I guess I'd have got this either way, but I would have picked it up anyway. With three similar-seeming games like this all coming from related developers so quickly, I guess they aren't worried about inundating us with them? I guess given the general fervor over Megaman's absence lately maybe that's not a risk, but it seems surprising to me!

I hear ya, Michael, and I agree! I'm kind of surprised no one's worried about "Mega Man clone overload" with all of these titles...

Yeah, that exactly! Imagine if Capcom switched gears suddenly and was like "Surprise, we were making an amazing Megaman title all along!" and then that was in the mix too. I think gamers would lose their minds!

Oh, man, if only that actually happened!

I'm with you on this one. I wish this was on PSN though. I don't do eShop at all. Also I could avoid pinky cramps by playing on the Vita.

Do you have an OG 3DS, Chief, or an XL? I ask because my hands don't mind the XL at all, although they loved to cramp while using my OG. As for the Vita, I'm guessing it's more comfortable to use than the PSP? Because the PSP was worse on my hands than any of my 3DSes...

I'm guessing that's a good "ooooooooh," Justin? Heh :)

I have an OG & an XL. Both give me cramps but the OG is more severe. Vita will tire my thumbs but doesn't really cramp me. I think the button placement and the roundness are what make it less awkward for me. The PSP was pretty tough on my hands; after MonHun I switched to claw grip and never cramped again ever.

Well, then, I look forward to finally getting my hands on a Vita at some point!
