Someone just *has* to turn this into game

"This," by the way, is the illustration below. It's called "Hadoucat!" and was created by artist Lucky1988 (who kindly shared it with the world via his/her Flickr photostream earlier this week).

If nothing else, I'd love to see the cat sprite used in some sort of Bubble Bobble clone. (In a perfect world, the person creating said game would copy the gameplay of Chip Chan Kick, a treasure of a PC-FX title that features cute little girls who stun enemies with what look like Puyo Puyo blobs before kicking them into the hereafter.)

Somewhat random aside: Lucky1988's image was in the running to appear on a t-shirt via shirt.woot.com, but it was rejected for being "off topic." Pshaw, I say!

Not only is this image amazing (and I share your sentiments about its featured feline), but I now know about the existence of Chip Chan Kick! My life feels a little more complete now. Even moreso once I get a chance to play it.

Oh, if I managed to turn you onto Chip Chan Kick with this post, Kamiwoo, I have done my job -- and then some!

It really is a great little game. Sadly, I've only played it via emulation. I'd love to play the real deal, so to speak, but at this point I just can't justify buying a PC-FX just to play one (rather pricey, as far as I can remember) game.

Yeah, I was thinking emulation would be how I'd have to experience it, considering the costs involved. Truly unfortunate.

(Especially since I don't think there's a PC-FX emulator for Wii or anything. I'd rather play it on my TV!)

Yes, PC emu is the way to go for PC-FX games at this point. I highly recommend paying for the PC-FX version of Magic Engine (Magic Engine FX?), by the way, as it's played pretty much every game I've thrown at it -- and beautifully at that. Unfortunately, I don't think any of the Magic Engine emus have been altered for use with the Wii. So, you'll have to play this via PC...

Magic Engine is definitely befitting of its name, so I'll look into the FX version!

I should really just get a PC that's capable of emulating just about everything and hook it up to my TV, but all of the computers around my house are the "not-so-powerful" type. Well, it's a future idea to save up for, anyway ;D

I've thought about doing the same thing, Kamiwoo, but for some reason I've never done it. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I can emulate *almost* everything on my Wii these days, and I much prefer using the Wii's controllers to anything I've tried on the PC.

I definitely hear you on that one, Bryan! There's enough emulatable (I just made up that word) content playable on the Wii to last a very, very long time.

One thing I will say, though, is that Xbox 360 controllers work on PCs, and there are various adapters to get PS2 controllers and the like working on them as well. Makes a huge difference to me, being a console gamer at heart.

Xbox 360 controllers work on PCs? How? And how have I not know this until now? I'm going to have to spend some time on Google tonight, I think :)

Ah, yes they do! I believe the wired controller will work right out of the box, but I assume you have the wireless variety. You'll need a wireless adapter for that.

It might be worth purchasing a wired controller if you don't want to sync/re-sync the same controller each time you switch between the two, though!

Add me to the list of people who is now on a quest to play Chip Chan Kick.

I use my Hori Real Arcade Pro EX Xbox 360 joystick on my PC (actually my Mac, now) btw.

haha oh man, I still have the Erasersaurus thing going

Bryan Ochalla said...

Hey there, Erasersaurus! Do I know you under another name somewhere else (on Twitter or Flickr, maybe?) Regardless, I'm glad I've prompted you to check out Chip Chan Kick. It's definitely a fun little game that's similar to Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands and Parasol Stars without being a knockoff.

Also, thanks for the tip about the joystick you use for PC play. I really have to give joysticks another try. I've preferred d-pads since the NES days and probably haven't used a joystick since the NES Advantage! (Well, outside of the arcades, of course.)

Kamiwoo: Ah, I thought I'd need some sort of wireless adapter. Maybe I'll track down one of the wired variety sometime soon so I don't have to re-sync all the time. Still, thanks for the heads-up!

Sweet. I'd totally wear a shirt with that on it. Too bad about it being disqualified, though...
