Pointless confession of the day: If Nintendo somehow brings Calcio Bit 3DS to the US, with this box art, I'll probably buy it

Keep in mind that the confession above is being made by someone who is no real fan of the sport known in some regions as football and in others as soccer.

Still, I can't help but love the box art (below) that Nintendo of Japan's designers came up with for this soon-to-be-released 3DS game.

Considering Nintendo of America has thus far passed on bringing any of the Inazuma Eleven titles to the States, though, I can't imagine it will give the green light to a soccer sim filled with adorable chibi characters.

Oh, well, it's probably for the best. After all, I know as much about football/soccer as I do about crochet (which is to say, not a whole lot).

It looks adorable (as does the GBA version), and it might be OK if it was a soccer game -- but a soccer management game? Eww.

If they brought here I can imagine they'll toss out the art and get a picture of a foot kicking a soccer ball. People in charge of localization apparently ignore pokemon and anime when they think Japanese stuff isn't liked by Americans.

warp: If I were a bigger fan of the sport, and if I knew more about it, I'd be perfectly OK with a soccer sim, to tell you the truth. I'm not sure I'd be able to make sense of it as is, though.

That said, there's not much of a reason for any of us to worry about whether we'll buy it or not since I think it's very doubtful it'll ever see the light of day outside of Japan.

Adam: You're 100% right. This box art would never survive localization -- at least, if we're talking about North American localization. I could see NOE keeping it the same ... maybe. But NOA? Like you said, they'd do their best to make it seem realistic, gritty, etc. Ugh.

You really don't think they would localize this for Europe? It seems like a no-brainer.

I think they *might* localize it for Europe, but I wouldn't say it's a no-brainer -- especially since they didn't localize the GBA version. If they do, though, I'm going to be really jealous!

I have played the GBA, but it's not up to much unfortunately, even for a footy fan like myself.

Bryan - I hope it's OK to post a link to a review I did for it if people are interested about the game? There's not much else around on the web..

It's like Contact meets soccer!

Hey there, Tetsuo! Thanks for the comment -- and thanks for posting a link to your review, too. I've honestly read very little about it over the years, which is kind of sad (sad that either no one has played it, or no one has thought enough of it to write a review of it).

Ah, Justin, once again I like the way you think! I'll bet *that* is why I like the looks of this one: The little soccer dudes *do* look like they were pulled from Contact. Awesome! And now I want the game even more :(

Tetsuo: Just read your review. Yeah, I sounds like I may have a hard time with the game, honestly. Of course, you mention in this review (of the GBA original) that you think the game would benefit from a DS sequel, so maybe this 3DS sequel will include some of the improvements you would have liked to see? Even then, though, I'm not at all sure what I think about watching a 15-minute soccer match that includes barely any interaction...
