The world's greatest tennis player is now promoting Wii Sports

No, I'm not talking about Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic or even Serena Williams. I'm talking about the peerless--and often ponytailed--winner of 22 Grand Slam singles titles, Steffi Graf.

Admittedly, the blond, leggy German stopped playing the sport more than a decade ago, but I'm a firm believer that if she re-entered the pro game today she'd quickly return to the top of the rankings--despite being 42.

Stefanie Graf on WhoSay

That's all well and good, but you'd probably like to know how Graf is, as this post's headline suggests, promoting Wii Sports, right? Well, she's doing so in a series of TV ads--including the one above--that will be aired inter- nationally (which I'm guessing means throughout Europe and not in the US), according to a recent post on her official website.

Although I think it's a pretty by-the-numbers Wii commercial, I can't help but like the smile and wink the mother of two--and wife of Andre Agassi--aims at viewers in the ad's waning seconds.

I suck at them both. Real or game.

That's OK, Blake. I'm surprised you suck at Wii Tennis, though -- it's much more forgiving than real-life tennis. Maybe you're just being too hard on yourself :)

Yeay, Steffi! :) She's my all-time favourite player, although that's partly because I fancied the pants off of her! :P I still probably won't get a Wii though ;)

Yes, another Steffi fan approaches! :)

As for fancying the pants off of Steffi: I can understand that, even though I'm gay. She certainly was fit/lithe, wasn't she? (And still is, based on this commercial.)

Still, if all you cared about were looks, you'd probably fancy Maria Sharapova, too -- despite her screams/grunts. So, Steffi's awesome abilities probably helped a bit, too, eh?

Finally, I won't try to twist your arm too much about getting a Wii, but I will say you're missing out on some amazing Nintendo-made games -- if that's something you care about. I've actually bought more games for my Wii than I have for any other console or handheld in recent memory, which is sayin' something!

Heck, if I didn't have a DS, Famicom, PC Engine and PSP to "support," too, I'd probably have even more games than I already do :)

Wow she's a little late to the Wii Sports game

Yeah, that's definitely true, Adam. Although, really, I guess it's NOE that's late to the game, isn't it? Kind of strange that they're still promoting this game. I guess there are still plenty of folks out there without a Wii!

Nintendo are really trying to push the Wii over the 90 million units mark for X-mas.

I guess so, Jyr! Still, I'm surprised they're pushing Wii Sports of all things. Maybe that's the only game that would really make sense with regards to Graf?

Nooo, it takes more than just looks, Bryan! Sharapova is gorgeous but I don't like her at all. She'd be way down on my tennis shag-list :P

Ha! Well, what was/is it about Steffi that helped her climb your shag-list?

As for Sharapova: I understand. I mean, there's the screaming, and then there's the fact that she's so damn stern on court. Of course, so was Steffi -- well, until about 1996.

Anyway, who else is on your tennis shag-list?
