12 import games I bought in 2012 but didn't tell you about until now: Mr. Driller Drill Spirits (DS)

Remember this post from earlier this year? If not, no biggie. The reason I'm mentioning it now is that in that post I asked folks for their opinions as to which version of Mr. Driller Drill Spirits I should buy--the European, the Japanese or the North American one.

As you can see in the photos below, I ended up going with the European one. Not because I prefer its box art to the box art that was used for the Japanese or North American releases, mind you. Rather, I bought the Euro version because I came across a dirt-cheap copy on eBay and just couldn't pass it up.

Anyway, this iteration's box art is pretty nice, don't you think? I, of course, like the soft color scheme, although I have to admit I'm not at all sure why Susumu Hori (the protagonist) and Puchi (the pup) are framed by pink and purple puffs.

The photo above is of the back of Mr. Driller Drill Spirits' box, as I'm sure you can tell. I'm including it here just so I can cover all the bases. Plus, it features a rainbow.

Have you ever wondered what the cartridge that contains the European version of Mr. Driller Drill Spirits looks like? Well, wonder no more! I know, it could be a smidge more exciting, but it is a DS cart label we're talking about, after all.

Yay! I'm so glad to hear you picked this one up. I, too, have the European version. Have you had a chance to give it a go yet? I think I generally prefer Mr. Driller A a tad more, but this is definitely up there as one of the best. I always carry a Mr. Driller game with me whereever I go!

Awww this game is on my "to-buy.list" for such a long time!

I will buy it as soon as possible :D

Sadly, I haven't yet given it a go, Anne. I will soon, though, I promise! It looks too cute to leave sitting on the shelf for long. BTW, I'm kind of surprised to hear you always have a Mr. Driller game with you. I had no idea you liked this series so much!

You should be able to find a copy in your neck of the woods for a fairly low price, I'm sure, Kimimi. Anyway, let me know what you think of it after you've had a chance to play it, will you?

I got this game when I first got the DS. I think I've since traded it in towards something else LOL
It was fun for a while, then I got bored with it.

I can pretty much guarantee that won't happen to me, Igor. Not saying I won't eventually bore of it, of course, but that I won't trade it in. I kind of have a policy these days to *not* sell my games or systems ... unless I *completely* hate them.

That's fair enough. I guess I just don't get that attached to a lot of games. There are only a few rare games where I feel I won't ever trade/sell them (e.g Eternal Darkness or FF Tactics Advance/A2)

For me it actually isn't about being overly attached to them. It's more about me having a lot of experience with buying games, playing them, selling them and then wanting them back down the road. Rather than continue to deal with that hassle, I decided a few years ago to keep the great majority of games that I buy.

Ah I see :)
Usually when I'm done with a game, I'm done ;)

You never go back to games, Igor? I go back to them all the time!

Rarely - only the ones that made a huge impact on me, like FF Tactics A2 or Eternal Darkness (tho I'm hoping Wii U gets a VC with GameCube games). I find it harder to replay really old games though.

Huh. I actually find it easier to replay really old games, as opposed to newer ones, strangely enough. Just goes to show, I guess, how all of us 'gamers' are interested in and motivated by different things.

As for the Wii U getting its own VC: I agree, although Nintendo's going to have to 'fix' its VC system if it expects me to buy any more 'classic' games from them. I gladly and willingly bought a ton of NES, SNES and other retro games via my Wii, but I won't be doing so on my 3DS or Wii U until at least some of those games can be played on both systems.

Oh sure, I love Mr. Driller! I usually have Drill Spirits in my 3DS case so I can pop it in for a few rounds when I don't have anything else I feel like playing. That and Puyo Puyo are my favorite puzzle games :)

Ah, that's nice to know :) I like Puyo Puyo as well, by the way. I've been meaning to pick up the PC Engine CD version for ages. Also quite like the GameGear port, even though most think it's crap.
